This is a fantastic system delivered by a real pro. This guy leaves out superfluous details and explains the "why" behind what he's teaching without giving a verbose thesis defense. he also routinely cues us in on what our opponent's options are and how to manage those options. Money well spent!

This content is well laid out. Techniques are specific to either how your opponent is approaching from a stance perspective, or reactions you get from a given technique. I would recommend this instructional to anyone who likes to play a seated guard. It is likely you will learn something!

Here we see a system of using the butterfly guard, taught succinctly. Gutta chooses all his words carefully in native English. He does not provide unnecessary details, nor does he say too little. For a move, he explains how it is done step by step, what the pitfalls are and why it works. He also explains how opponents commonly react and gives safety tips. It is clearly rehearsed or not the first time he teaches it. Each move comes with two more repetitions, often from different angles. The moves themselves are structured logically into a Part (if-this-then-that), rather than form an arbitrary list. The 4 parts are also logically distinct, rather than just thrown together as in "25% of the content is categorized as part 1, 25% as part 2 etc". I like that. Part 1 (24 min) teaches an effective standard combination. Your opponent can go all-in (Part 2) or flee (Part 3). Part 2 (31 min) starts off from bottom half-guard from where he moves into a smashed butterfly guard, which is the main focus together with its recovery, the double overhook and its submission chain. Part 3 (40 min) also shows a lot of counters to opponents trying to pass your butterfly guard as well as no-gi submissions and arm drags. Part 4 (38 min) is divided into two halves: gi-based sweeps and submissions, and the second half deals with how to bring down standing opponents. He addresses beginners and more experienced persons alike. I have watched butterfly tutorials before, but those did not make this one redundant and I learned many more details. Most techniques would work in no-gi too. The trainer makes sure not to waste your time and because the information is dense, I don't think it is boring to watch it several times. In fact, it would be a good reference. In summary, I do not regret the purchase.

Everyone like and know butterfly, but when it comes to play butterfly against blue, purple and higher belts you need something more than basic butterfy sweep. John covers all the topics. We can watch a lot of sneaky submissions, details against diffrent opponent approach. Personally, one of the best coursers

One of the best tutorials on the market for all skill levels. There is so much knowledge packed into this comprehensive series on the butterfly position. John Gutta's systematic approach and detailed explanation of nuances that others miss are what make him such a successful coach and my favorite instructor. I can't wait to put these techniques into practice. This series reminds me of why I first fell in love with Jiu Jitsu. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to sharpen up their bottom game.
