Jon Thomas is a great instructor and I get a lot out of his Youtube channel. This instructional summarizes his open guard very well. I've been studying it for a while and have been able to implement many of his concepts into my game even though I wouldn't have considered myself a spider guard player in the past.

J. T. did a great job by producing an instructional which covers the main idea of double sleeve based guard game. His idea of mini games based jiu jitsu und learn to understand when one battle ends and another starts is very parctical to me in general. Further more his 4 steps approach to ground game contending escapes, retention, grip fighting and attacking is valid. In this instructional he is focussing on mainly on grip fighting and attacking. He delivers a broad overwiev of the double sleeve open guard based on shallow lasso and one foot at the hip and then he is going deeper into spider lasso and spide x-guard. He is covering transitions inbetween this two and a buch of sweeps and finishes via triangle choke and the most common submission from x-guard the straigh ankle lock. Trinsitions inbetween between doulbe sleeve variations beside the mentioned ones are also given. His Teching is very strucured and his explanaitions or on point with the right amount details. Highly recommend!

The great thing about this instructional is that it combines positional details with tactical flexibility. Jon gives you options for dealing with different approaches that the passer can take and the challenges they present. He shows positional modifications that produce more static or dynamic exchanges from double sleeve, as well as complementary submission and sweeping options that allow you to remain on the attack. I highly recommend this instructional to practitioners of every level. Even if you are an avid fan of his youtube channel, this instructional will add a few new, important details and added coherence to your understanding of the double sleeve/spider guard position.

I was able to quickly put to use many of techniques detailed in this instructional after skimming through it just once. Looking forward to re-watching so I can refine the techniques and implement them into my game. Highly recommend for anyone who is not sure where to start/go with their open guard. It sure helped me.

This is a great instructional to learn from, especially if you don't currently have a foundation in any open guard. You'll be able to build from this foundation and add in for example, Collar Sleeve/DLR/Spider etc. as you get familiar with double sleeves. HIghly recommended.

Jon Thomas is one of the best gi teacher in the world. I've been following his YouTube for a long-time and I put his videos right alongside John Danaher's. The double sleeve guard has become my main supine guard, thanks in large part to him. I highly recommend buying this product to get accustomed with this great guard.
