I have been a black belt for a while. I have watched lots of Neil's instructionals. Why? He is one of the few instructors that shows interesting stuff, but more "why" he shows what he shows. Each belt I have gone back and watched and so much of what he teaches grows with you. He shows stuff that works for or against big guys little guys etc. Highly recommend. Also DON'T skip the intro videos to any instructional. This is GOLD for understanding the rest of the instructional. Neil has done a great job with putting a deep understanding of grappling into digestible data.
Excellent information on tactics Neil Melanson always a win in my books The most underrated coach in all of submission grappling
I love all of Neil Melanson's stuff, because of his ability to meld techniques and concepts from arts that are adjacent to BJJ, such as wrestling, catch wrestling, judo, Japanese jiu-jitsu, and I own eight of his tutorials. This one is not so much technique oriented; rather, it teaches you how to approach conceptually being in the top of someone's closed guard. I knew virtually everything in this tutorial already but for someone earlier in their BJJ journey, this material would be valuable.
It is easy to make the guardplayers many trouble with this technics.
Awsome and worth it
I’ve got most of the stuff that he puts of and he never disappoints. This one is no different, full of really valuable stuff that I can’t wait to add to my game.
Understand and agressive approche from insiste thé Closed guard for to ne safe and dangerous
I’m like a broken record whenever I review a Melanson instructional. His outside-the-box approach to grappling, coupled with his concise, concept-based instruction, will make you think differently about your game. As I learn more about BJJ, I didn’t want to be one of those players with little understanding of closed guard tactics—in this instructional, Melanson delivers a treasure trove of essential concepts you can apply immediately to your defensive game when you’re caught on someone’s guard. Yet another standout from the Ground Marshall.
Great for MMA & submission grappling if you don't want to get submitted in the guard.
Neil Melanson never fails to deliver. In this instructional you will find a lot of ways to counter and nulify guard attacks, with a focus on posture and angles. There are not a lot of 'techniques' in here, but the principles and concepts that Neil shares will help you tremendously with escaping and passing the guard. And all delivered with the typical filthy Melanson sense of humour of course. Stay filthy!
Another outstanding instructional of Neil Melanson. The principles and concepts are mainly shown out of closed guard. To make it better to understand he shows the same principles and grips out of standing. The given techniques are easy to get and kept simple. He goes over every main aspect inside the guard and how to avoid compromising or get back to neutral with clear paths. Highly recommend!
As usual neil delivers a great instructional. Really physical approach to the defense.
Can’t go wrong with Melanson. This instructional will help you not only stay safe in the guard but also go on the offense, filthy style!
Neil is a great instructor. I've gone back several times to watch this set and seem to pick up more each time.
Coach Neil is my go to! The explanation of positioning has helped instantly. He created a mindset change. Neil’s techniques are timeless and efficient. BJJFanatics has brought another awesome instructional to the table.
Full of great concepts and info as usual
Very good instructional. Neil mentions that his approach is to show the why and not just the how, this is very evident in this series. Neil lays out the core concepts of dominating inside the guard as well as a simple step by step system to break down what to do next when in the guard, I very much recommend this video.
