I enjoyed the y guard break down and set up
awesome deets
This is basically a really easy to understand explanation of ankle locks. For anyone looking to break into learning leg locks, start here. Craig Jones is great, but he is more advanced. John Danaher is great if you can listen to 9 hours of instructional and filter through it all. And let's be honest, Gordan Ryan is great, but he is a bit 'artistic', if you catch my meaning.
Great finishing mechanics and intro for a whitebelt. A little bit more focus on entries would have been nice, but otherwise great.
Excellent details as usual by Rau
Jason broke down the techniques in easy to digest chunks that were easy to apply on the mats during rounds and team practices.
Detailed as always from rau
Very good Dvd. Nice explanation
I have been terrorising peoples ankles ever since watching this. Top stuff

Rau is the most succinct while still being very detailed

Great Ankle lock instruction
理解が進みました。
Jason Rau is top teacher. I love his content. Very clear and I get huge understanding of Ankle Lock
In short, I think it’s an excellent set and I would absolutely recommend it. If you’d like to read more, here are my thoughts. The set is quite short, the runtime is less than 90 minutes in total. As with Rau’s other material, it’s fast, dense and deep. The set makes no effort to be a “comprehensive” treatment on ankle locks. Instead, it’s a focused presentation on a very robust, streamlined system. It’s complete in that sense, it shows everything you’ll need, and you’ll need everything it shows. This set connects well with Rau’s other releases. In particular, the set connects well with Rau’s Dynamic Outside Ashi. I think it should be mentioned also that the system presented is clearly intended for a particular context. Some of the methods demonstrated to achieve a finish are illegal in some rulesets, as they involve reaping or turning in the direction of the foot not under attack. Also, many of the follow-ups presented for when the ankle lock fails would also be illegal in those rulesets (outside heel hooks & Aoki locks). It’s reasonable to conclude that this set is intended for IBJJF NoGi Adult Brown/Black or ADCC Adult Pro rules, and I believe everything shown would be effective at that level. For people who don’t compete in those competitions or train under those rules, some modifications or substitutions will be necessary. Whether this is the best choice for somebody wishing to develop their ankle locks probably depends a lot on their personal goals. For somebody who is mostly focused on Gi competition, I would recommend Mikey Musumeci’s Death From Below instead. I haven’t seen it, but Leglocks for White, Blue and Purple belts by Jacob Couch and Heath Pedigo might be a better choice for the lower ranks. The most similar alternative to this set would be Mateusz Szczeciński’s Shotgun Ankle Lock instructional, which was released on Techniqly. I’ve trained with Szczeciński and I’ve studied his Shotgun Ankle Lock (Techniqly) and Shotgun Aoki Lock (BJJ Fanatics) instructional sets. His material is also excellent (his ankle lock is terrifying). Techniqly is now closed, and Szczeciński’s set is no longer available, so this set by Rau is the obvious recommendation. I have studied a lot instructionals on ankle locks (and leg locks generally), and I would recommend this with without reservation. There’s nothing in the set which drastically improved my ankle locks, but there are some subtle ideas and details I had not seen before, and I feel they have helped to further refine my ankle lock game. If I had this set earlier in my learning, I am sure that it would have accelerated my learning. Going forward I imagine that the material in this set (with Musumeci’s and Szczeciński) will be the basis of what I teach my students about ankle locks.
Jason has to be one of my favourite instructors. I buy anything he produces
details with alternative options, recommended
Great detail for ankle locks, immediately took my sloppy straight ankle lock to something I can reliably get submissions with
Really improved my ankle lock finishes
great nogi submission
This instructional identifies the missing link between traditional straight ankle locks and the modern variations increasingly seen in high-level competition. Rau goes beyond simply teaching techniques—he breaks down the core concepts of positioning, leverage, and timing in a way that anyone can understand. Rather than presenting isolated no-gi techniques, Rau teaches a cohesive system that is practical and applicable to both gi and no-gi scenarios.
