Jason Rau is honestly one of the best instructors out there , he always comes with very easy to digest instructionals that will immediately impact your game, and this one is no exception.
This is an excellent instructional, covering a simple but highly effective system. The reap and the outside heel hook are central to the system, so this instructional is most suited to NoGi Adult Black/Brown rules or ADCC Pro rules. Jason's instruction is clear, detailed, and insightful. However, like all of Jason's instructionals, this set is fast, dense, and deep. Most students will need to re-watch this instructional several times to absorb all the details. I would also recommend Jason's other instructional sets "Dynamic Ankle Locks", "Understanding The Reap" and "Outside Ashi Reloaded" which naturally complement this set.
Great information
He is best instructor
The basis of outside ashi. The fundamentals of the guard retention of outside ashi
Great ideas
Jason Rau is great
Great instructional.
I needed a little extra detail on this position so can't go wrong getting Jason's stuff. My straight ankle locks are noticeably more effective after studying/drilling this.
Took my outside ashi/leglocking game up a notch!
An excellent instructional covering Outside Ashi in all key positions—against standing, kneeling, and seated opponents. With a strong focus on the reap, this is a fantastic resource for anyone looking to elevate their heel hook game. While a defense section would have been a great addition, the offensive instruction is so well-done that it still deserves 5 stars. Highly recommended for leg lock enthusiasts!
Rau is a leg lock genius! This is a must have for those wanting to sharpen the outside ashi position.
Amazing techniques by word class leglock specialist. Glad to have this instructional

Jason's leglock instructionals are pure gold, worth every penny. Great techniques and concepts, recommend to everyone.
It feels like he has the details other instructors are not that capable to express. 10/10
Great techniques, applicable at all levels, if you want to improve your outside ashi legatacks, this instructional is a must have.
Jason Rau is one of my favourite video instructors. This series is excellent, as are all his other releases. In his usual style, the instruction is fast, dense and deep. It may take several viewings to fully absorb the content, particularly for viewers less experienced in leg attacks. I have been training NoGi leg locks since white belt. My coach is a former multiple time ADCC European Champion (he has a leg lock series here on Fanatics). I have trained leg locks with Lachlan Giles, Masakazu Imanari, and several of Europe’s top competitors. I worked through John Danaher’s “Enter The System” and Lachlan Giles’ “Leg Lock Anthology” with upper belt training partners at white and blue belt. The outside ashi was the first leg lock position to experience significant counter play after the initial leg lock boom. Earlier approaches to the position left the attacker vulnerable to back takes, guard passes and counter leg locks. In this release, Jason presents a systematic approach which remedies these issues. The system is simple, complete and immediately effective, even against very knowledgeable training partners. The content is absolutely game-changing and I recommend this release without hesitation. I would also recommend Jason’s other releases; “Dynamic Ankle Locks” and “Dynamic NoGi 50/50” are an excellent complement to this release. I also recommend Mateusz Szczeciński’s “Shotgun Aoki Locks”.
This series is absolutely fantastic. Like all of Jason's instructionals, the series is fast, dense and deep. It may take several viewings to fully absorb the content, especially for those less experienced in leg attacks. I have trained NoGi leg locks (including heel hooks) since I was a white belt. My coach is a former multiple time ADCC European Champion and an expert in leg locks (he has a series her on Fanatics). I worked through John Danaher's Enter The System and Lachlan Giles' Leg Lock Anthology at white an blue with upper belt training parters. The outside ashi was the first leg lock position to experience significant counterplay after the initial leg lock boom. Some early approaches to the position left the attacker vulnerable to guard passes, back takes and counter leg locks. For some time, the position fell from favour. In this series, Jason Rau presents an approach to outside ashi which solves the problems of the earlier approaches. The system is simple, complete and immediately effective, even against very knowledgeable training partners. The content is absolutely game-changing, and I would recommend this instructional without hesitation. I also recommend Jason's other instructionals highly. In particular, "Dynamic Ankle Locks" and "Dynamic NoGi 50/50" both complement the material presented in this release. I would also mention Mateusz Szczeciński's "Shotgun Aoki Locks" as being worth considering.
