Very good information that has quickly helped my side control game.
A different spin on side control that is different than your typical BJJ. Great explanations and details that really make the difference. Another quality production from Neil Melanson.
Just some real nasty attacks as expected :) and different from some of the more traditional BJJ instructionals!
I had to shower after watching this.
Love his stuff
Awesome material. Such a wealth of information.
Neil Melanson has a strong background in Catch Wrestling under Gene LeBell and being a Gene LeBell guy, he is also very good at Judo style finishing holds. Neil is a master hybrid grappler, who spent a career training top level Mixed Martial Artists. His skills are applicable to all submission grappling styles including BJJ. I strongly recommend any of Neil's instructionals and if you're looking for nasty cross body (aka side control) attacks, this one's for you.
I have almost all of Neil's tutorials and each and every one of them is jammed packed with clear and efficient instruction. All of which is easy to follow and systematically applicable! Plus he's funny AF! Stay Filthy!
This is quality! Neil shows attacks from many different side control positions including scarf hold. It's all put together into a formidable system. Fantastic instruction!
Awesome side control strategies here. Many of the techniques covered will force your opponents in very difficult dilemmas and trilemmas. This leads to great disguises and catching your partners with submissions they never see coming. Neil’s details on the Kimura-Sankaku dilemma is worth the price alone. 👍
I new of some attacks from side mount but my main position for attacks was in mount. Now I don’t have to rely as much on getting to mount, on top of now having a very sneaky attack through just my side mount top control.
Big fan of Neil's teaching style, and this hasn't disappointed.. the texhniquuesv were explained clearly and had massively improved my game.. highly recommended!
Great instructional that I have already started to implement into my game. Melanson makes things very clear, gives straight analysis of techniques that are good but maybe not as high percentage as others and keeps things engaging and entertaining. Already picked up another one of his instructionals based on how much I liked this one.
Awesome class and technique! It broaden my attack technique in arsenal! Pure Go l d itself!
Great summary of side control techniques and submissions. Neil gets to the point and explains why he does it a certain way and always hat tipping where credit is due.
top notch
My FAVORITE System followed by Dave Petrone’s BlackOut Hybrid. My Game is based around this. I’ve been doing No-Gi on/ off for 18 years (No Belt Ranking because we didn’t use a ranking system but I am a White Belt in Gi since I only started training in it within the last 1.5 yrs.) and blending these with the Catch heavy Hybrid system I’ve trained in keeps me competitive at 53 y/o even though I’m not as actively consistent as my Training partners are
Neil's techniques are very different and interesting than what you normally see. He goes over a number of triangles and interesting arm attacks. His style is a bit different from what you normally learn in BJJ, but they techniques are very effective.
like all coach Melansons instructional awesome easy to follow and horrible submissions
I am going to go broke if this guy keeps making videos. His instructions are great and I love his brutal style. I am going to try to gain as much knowledge as I can from him.
Melancon knocks another one out of the park, this might be in the top 2 of all of the programs of his that I own!
Coach Neil bringeth the filth as always.
Out of the 6 instructionals I own from Coach Neil, his arm triangle one (Off With Their Head) is my favorite... but this Filthy Cross Body Attacks instructional gives that one a run for its money. I'm probably stating the obvious when I say that offense from top side control has to be one of the most popular topics in BJJ. However, what I feel sets this instructional apart are the methods of controlling an opponent that Coach Neil teaches. Those methods might be a little more physical and hands-on that what's commonly taught, but in my opinion, that's what's needed when you're rolling with people who are stronger and more explosive than you, and just want to escape -- they don't necessarily care about proper technique or if it looks pretty. I especially like the tight waist position and turn-away sequence from this instructional. All of your favorite Coach Neil submissions are in here, such as the arm triangle, Turk choke, and switch D'arce. He even gives a couple of new pointers for the arm triangle that I found helpful. I prefer using chokes over joint locks, but Coach Neil's way of doing the spinning armbar makes me want to actually use that technique in sparring now. If you're already a fan of Coach Neil's instructionals, I recommend this one because I think it does a really good job of providing context for techniques he's shown in other instructionals and links the techniques together well.
Coach Neil has a method for instruction that is precise, conceptual and entertaining. The content of this video like any, Mr. Melanson puts out has fluid concepts to maintain success from the top position. His Kimura understanding comes from a great lineage, and is very scientific.
Excellent instruction and very implementable techniques. This is my first instructional from Neil and I'll definitely be getting more - I love the effectiveness and brutality. Highly recommended.
