Mikey is a genius when it comes to jiu-jitsu. Guard attacks broken down perfectly.
This is an excellent introduction into guard in a really broad way. This was the first open guard gi instructional that really helped me tie things together.

Excellent and in depth
Very in depth and sequential
This is filled with concepts and techniques, don’t let the title fool you, people often associate the word foundations with a beginner, in BJJ as well as many other martial arts Foundations and fundamentals are not a negative word but rather one of the most important ones. Being told that you have a great foundation especially in the grappling arts is one of the best compliments a Professor could ever give you , whether you are a white belt with 10 days of Training or myself a Brown Belt that recently received my 4th stripe April 11th will be 10 years since I began my BJJ Journey and it’s my 27th year of studying Martial arts which includes another Grappling Art Judo where I recieved my black belt under two time Olympic champion and the Coach of the USA Olympic judo team for both of Kayla Harrison’s gold medals, SENSIE Jimmy Pedro, who has a much more focus on ground game (Ne-Waza) then most Judoka’s. Every principle that Musumeci is structured in a way that is easy to understand and he explains to the student the reasons behind preforming the techniques in the certain way that they are taught, without adding any unnecessary filler, I would recommend to anyone who trains in submission grappling whether wrestling, judo and obviously BJJ. Learning and utilizing the concepts & techniques taught here will always be a part of your game and the further you get the more important these become. Musumeci has a great mind for a strategic approach to your grappling/offensive game can become more effective.
Complete system
There are details that nobody give but Mikey, his open guard concepts are amazing!
This video is set up perfectly for understanding what to do from where my opponents head is aligned. Using one concept through multiple grips and guards I learned how to recognize when to submit, sweep, and take the back. I highly recommend!

Foundations of Guard: Attacking by Mikey Musumeci is an incredibly well-structured and detailed instructional that showcases why Mikey is one of the most technical minds in jiu-jitsu today. While the pace and flexibility in some sections definitely seem geared toward younger, more agile athletes, there’s still a lot of high-level gold here for everyone—even us seasoned practitioners. Mikey doesn’t just show you what to do—he explains the logic behind each grip, angle, and movement. That kind of conceptual clarity is something I really appreciated. As someone who’s not doing inverted berimbolos on the daily, I still came away with several concepts and positional ideas I could immediately apply to my own guard game. Highlights: Outstanding detail on angle creation, grip efficiency, and structured guard attacks. Even if you can’t move like Mikey, you can think like Mikey—and that’s just as powerful. Great reminder that foundational doesn't mean basic—it means built to last. Excellent for any belt level looking to improve retention and attacking options from bottom. This instructional made me rethink how I build and threaten from guard—even with a few creaky joints in play. Whether you’re young and bendy or experienced and strategic, this is a great addition to your library.
Amazing course, thanks Mikey.
These ideas are great. Mikey gives lots of options of sweeps and other attacks from various forms of open guard.
