Got this shortly after getting my blue belt. Wish I had this from the beginning, it advanced me quickly.
Incredibly detailed instruction. Feels like college courses all over again :slightly_smiling:
Excellent instructional. Just finished the instructional and memorized and drilled many of the concepts while going through. Last night I kept a brown belt from passing my guard during multiple rolls. And I'm a white belt. Felt really good not getting smashed.
Outstanding!!! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to understand guard retention techniques. John does a fantastic job breaking things down.
This course will certainly help build a solid foundation for your guard retention. John Danaher’s attention to detail is incredibly helpful.
One of the best videos on my files! This is a knolege that all bjj fighters should have!
What can you write, that has not been already said by prof. Danaher instructionals. For me it not only provides fundamental knowledge how to apply filmed techniques but most importantly shows what is the reasoning behind them. I was able to get deep understanding about the game that I'm looking forward to improve.
The instructions were excellent and after practicing and implementing the techniques and concepts my guard retention skills have improved by leaps and bounds.
Oss.
I found it very helpful to have the general principles explained before the specific techniques. It certainly makes the learning easier and allows us to adapt our game to the ever changing situation. The techniques offered range from early stage to late stage recovery. Excellent video and wish I had this earlier.
Awesome video! Really appreciate the breakdown of fundamental movements and why we do them. So often we shrimp like zombies without thinking of the trike applicability of the movement and perfect it mindfully.
Great instructional for anyone looking to learn how to or improve on guard retention. Danaher as usual has huge detail in his teaching - covering guard retention from a concept perspective and from a technique to technique approach. Watched a few times and have found the concept understanding has help massively in training
John Danaher’s teaching legendary! This series is what is to be expected. Top quality, concise and effective. The concepts in this program are foundational and a must to have in your library.
Love the scientific method style that John Danaher has!
This instructional is on point! The amount of detail John goes into gives even a BJJ novice like me, much greater perspectives into how to retain, defend the guard.
This Guard Retention series is a great center for all of Danaher's Guard related work and also puts some of his solo exercises into better perspective.
Really truly greatest John Danaher instructions. Top quality and clarity of guard retention instructions. Thank you John Danaher.
I’m new to BJJ and this course has helped me immensely. I love his emphasis on concepts in his teaching style. I have to understand the “big picture” before I can get my head around the details. He does an outstanding job with that. He still gives an enormous amount of details so there’s something for everyone regardless of learning style.
One of the best instructionals i’ve seen!
I wish I’d bought this sooner. Critical elements for keeping from getting passed. A++
Every time I re-watch I find more details that I miss that help with the current issues I am experiencing in training. Thanks so much!
I’ve spent so much time learning to attack from open guard but not much on guard defense. Really changed my game. I’m much more annoying now:call_me_hand:
This instructional impacted my guard game and my ability to pass guard substantially! Super excited about drilling this content!
Wish I had this instructional as a white belt, specially because it is in a long time neglected field (the guard retention). highly recommended also to the coloured belts. Danaher teaching stye is one of a kind. It is not engaging (to be polite), but his understanding of the body dynamics and details he point out are astonishing.
This instructional has served me very well in my short few years training. Any time I want to focus on improving my retention I come back to this video for ideas on how to improve.
