great details on knee lever
I find myself in a knee shield position quite often, and this has changed how I attack for different sweeps. This is a must have for any half-guard player!
great job with details
as allways from Adam to content
The knee lever is sometimes overlooked in BJJ. Glad to see one of my favorite instructors touching on this
Very easy to use and effective and fun!
Best knee lever instructional.
as a Halfguard player i have a Little different goal than butterflygzuz. but i Love the sweeps and they fit perfectly in my game.
I think it is very useful
Very clear instruction, outstanding clarity, provides detail and variation to this sweep that I haven’t seen other instructors give. I’ve already incorporated this into my game and it is very effective.
Game changer video! Really interesting 🙂
Knee lever is a technique I try often but usually have missed results. The details learned here have already made a huge difference.
This instructional (Gi) provides a deep dive into knee lever sweep (aka the John Wayne sweep). It is well structured and commences with the first volume covering how the technique works and what is required to make it work effectively; the two different types of knee lever sweeps (i.e., opponent is posturing up high or forcing chest to chest contact); and the last two chapters of this volume show the application of the two different types of knee lever sweeps and the importance of connection. Volumes 2 teaches a series of sweeping techniques for half guard bottom using different types of controls; sweeps from the butterfly guard; and a chapter to show its application against a knee slide pass. Volume 3 teaches a guard pull to knee lever and the use of the knee lever to off balance the opponent to create opportunities. Volume 4 teaches techniques where the knee lever sweep can work in combination with other techniques (e.g., hook sweep, shotgun armbar or to create an entrance into the X guard); and its use to counter to an opponent backstepping or using an over under pass from a knee lever sweep. The total runtime for this instructional is 2 hours and 17 minutes. Adam Wardzinski explains the details of the technique being taught and importantly why certain movements are necessary to make the technique effective. For me this broader understanding is important, rather than simply being taught the steps to a technique. Demonstrations and discussions are clear and easy to understand. Pleasingly the discussion is focused on the instruction, which makes this instructional easy to watch multiple times. I also appreciated the use of different coloured uniforms. Within the limitations of a fixed camera there are no notable issues with video quality (e.g., range, focus, or lighting) or sound. The knee lever sweep is a great tool for people interested in improving their game, particularly half guard, but also butterfly guard and seated butterfly guard. In my opinion a deep dive into a specific technique really improves your understanding of and application of a technique. This in turn helps to improves your confidence in using the technique effectively and ability to see opportunities to use the technique.

Adam makes the sweep so easy
John Wayne Sweeps
Since I have the luxury of being small and always stuck in half guard, I got to practice this a lot. Got me out of half guard against bigger dudes and gave me options. 10/10 would watch again 👍
Adam's instruction on this specific sweep is awesome. He gives many details here, as well as other options. I have a few of his other instructionals and this one is as great as the others.
Excellent!
