become unstoppable for real
Professor Drew Weatherhead composed an instructional on how to use the structure of your body and limbs to move efficiently and effectively no matter of your are pinned or playing guard. It is about beeing aware of the lines of force all three dimensions. It is about using your arms and forearms as a frame as well as using your ellbows and shoulders/knees and hips as a fulcrum and your hands and feet as a post supported by skeleton. He shows how to use the right end of the lever and how to adjust to get it. He points out and shows how important it is and how to utilize your hip for proper movement/angle change!. It is not about something new. It is abut wareness and refining your set ups to level up your techniques and moves. It helped me a lot really use what I got!
great tutorial on frames. I've been focusing on how frames help you recover guard. Understanding frames and distance has been helpful being an older grappler.
Starting BJJ can be very frustrating. This is best place to start understanding frames and distance. Wish I had this 20 years ago.
This is great instructional. As an older practioner I especially like the great detail that is given on framing. This has been very beneficial to my game.
Great instructional!
Very helpful. Great enforcement of good techniques
The aim of this instructional is to give you the understanding and skills to make it difficult for your training partner or opponent to crush and immobilise you. Drew Weatherhead demonstrates these concepts being applied from the bottom, for the major positions. Additionally, he explains why the techniques taught work. The instructional has a total runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes. The first volume covers the appropriate concepts and tools to make and retain or take space and covers gripping, trapping, framing, posting, using levers and when on the bottom moving your hips on the mat (e.g., retreat from your opponent to create better options). The second volume covers the concepts taught from volume one to the following situations from the bottom: closed guard, half guard, reverse half guard and side control. The major skills taught include making space, appropriate framing, trapping, posting, levering and body position leading to disengagement or escaping the bottom position. The third volume follows on from volume 2 and covers from the bottom scarf hold, knee on belly, north south and mount. Drew Weatherhead is easy to watch and listen to. He explains concepts and techniques clearly. Demonstrations are clear and consistent when repeated. While demonstrations are easy to follow, when teaching escaping knee on belly it would have been preferable if the angle of the camera had been different to show clearly what Drew Weatherhead was doing with his right arm when interacting with the uke’s leg. Sound and video are good, noting the general limitations of a single fixed camera. The quality of the video and sound are consistent with the available previews. Overall, I feel that this instructional effectively teaches a good range of skills to reduce the ability of your opponent to easily crush and immobilise you, however there are better instructionals if you are wanting to learn a range of core positional escape techniques. To be fair I think the escape techniques shown in this instructional are examples of the concepts taught, but the product page on BJJ Fanatics perhaps implies more. Nevertheless, in my opinion this instructional feels underdeveloped and should have included additional content. I think the runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes reflects this view.
Instructions are very clear and easy to understand even for begginers, varieties of techniques showed on this course are very satisfactional.
The biggest take away is that those who play guard do not have to stay on the bottom even if they cannot sweep their opponents. He shows how one can use the hip movement to disengage from guard and get to a neutral position, which I feel is far better than being stuck on the bottom about to get the guard passed.
Fantastic instructional on how to get out of tight spots. Drew Weatherhead has a great teaching style.
Video covers the basics, yet they are crucial if not done properly. The techniques taught help me to survive and escape from being pinned. Worth watching!
Some nice tips to get myself out of some tough spots.
