I really enjoy how Prof. Danaher goes into the minutia. The tiny details that make everything work and WHY it makes them work. This is the kinda stuff you cant get in class because there isnt enough time to explain. Personally this is exactly what I needed. I feel confident to be more aggressive about my submission attempts because even if I end up on bottom, i now have a completely solid defense. First day on the mats after watching these I escaped the big white belt who usually pins me. Escaped a back take by a fellow blue belt who usually catches me in chokes (head position and shoulders to the floor) and thwarted my coaches (brown belt) attempts at mount 3 times consecutively. This stuff works folks. Its given me a whole new mentality when stepping on the mats and a gameplan that actually translates to practice application on the mat.
Rule number one for a white belt is to practice defense and survival. There's no better instruction for helping with that than this series. Get fundamental before you get fancy and live longer to tell the tale. Thank you, John Danaher.
I am a white belt. At the beginning of the video John Danaher says that if your escapes are weak you will never be confident with your attacks. I couldn't agree more. Escapes are the most important part of BJJ in my opinion. I've seen it quite a few times: a small guy gets passed, but manages to escape the pin; it happens several times, and the guy on top starts getting ****** off and does some ****** stuff - exposes the elbow, neglects his posture etc. - and the small guy capitalizes on that. This video set is very detailed, even painfully so at times. The amount of detail is astounding. I highly recommend this video.
The film is so detailed it’s great for working learning the basics.
A massive amount of information. Worth every penny
I'm on vol. 4 of this dvd instructional set. I really like how Danaher gets to the heart of things. In particular, he goes over the rising shrimp (a combination of off-centered bridging to shrimping) to great extent. I actually like the repetition of mention on this, because he adds details to be specific and clear.
Great details on all techniques shown. Personally I think there was a little too much repetition - but it certainly hammers home the concepts.
Great so far!
Thorough explanation of how to escape the most common positions in BJJ and get on the offensive. Not just what to do, but why it works.
If you are on the fence about getting these instructional videos, I highly recommend that you do it! In a short period of time, you will learn the lessons that most people take several months to obtain and years still to understand. Danaher covers many of the key initial concepts of jiu jitsu by troubleshooting and teaching the fundamental principles that will allow your techniques to become maximally efficient. Advanced jiu jitsu is the execution of the fundamentals without hesitation. Apply these principles to your arsenal, and you will feel like a member of the Danaher death squad. Learn from one of the best jiu jitsu instructors in the world, and become unpinnable by your peers!
Always excellent and clear
I was blown away by the precision and extraordinarily detailed fashion of John's explanation of something I had not understood to be so complex. I am still extremely naive in my attempts to use strength over technique and quickly realized that strength has little to do with getting out of mount IF you use the techniques that John explains. I am only on volume 3 and trying to digest every word as quickly as i can! I feel so much more comfortable trying out offensive techniques knowing that I will be able to escape mount should i flub it up. It gives me the courage to attack without always resorting to what works so I have been trying new techniques to expand on my Brazilian jiu-jitsu vocabulary
Professor John is Yoda. You will not be disappointed.
Great detail, great explanations, a beneficial addition to anyones collection.
I am loving this video and can not wait for the rest of this series. I actually wish this came out before the previous series. I have been out of BJJ due to a separated shoulder and would have loved to be using this before. Well I'll just have to go all hard to hold down in a few weeks. Like how come i have never heard of a RISING SHRIMP till now?
Very clear and solid info!
All around great!
Getting pinned sucks. This will help you dramatically
Cannot over emphasize how impressed I am with this series. The level of detail is amazing.
Extremely detailed, easy to follow along with. Such a great teacher
Really appreciate John Danaher willingess' to breakdown the moves beynod the actual mechanics to give the theory and reasons why these moves are fundamental to the practioner.
Many instructional videos dive right into technique, forgoing theory and mindset as to why the movement is employed. Not the case with a John Danaher series. With his Enter the System series we were introduced to his systematic approach to the game. While this video is not a system per se, it does provide a solid set of heuristics to negate the pin of your opponent. Danaher consistently provides the tool sets necessary to intelligently and creatively dominate any scenario on the mats.
