  I absolutely love this instructional as well as all of Wim's other instructionals. This one is the culmination of his pressure passing, mirroring and offensive defense systems. And it all revolves around what he call the "mirroring principle". Give the opponent exactly what he wants until he no longer wants it anymore. And you in general meet pressure with pressure. Wim really breaks down all the postures, fundamental movements and the concepts in great detail. It is because of Wim and Priit Mihkelson highly refined defensive systems, they enable you to start making gambits and take riskier attacks. A gambit as Wim explains is where you sacrifice a piece for structural advantage. The DVD here really highlights how actually nuanced good fundamental jiu jitsu is - and how you can funnel your opponent into your game. He goes over what he calls the Kings gambit (triangle), queen gambit (armbar), and the fool gambit (omoplata). And what is most intriguing is the way he shows how the mirroring principle gives you a pretty solid heuristic for timing and determining what kind of move & energy is appropriate when. A lot of what he teaches is very conceptual but fundamental and thus has a broad range of application unlike more technique specific instructionals. This DVD and his other instructionals really make me feel as though I have a much deeper grasp of Jiu Jitsu though I am only white belt - and the great thing is most other schools have NO IDEA at all about any of these concepts, movements nor postures like the shoulder escapes, baby bridge and scoops. And that been giving me an edge on most everyone.

• Finally, a detailed instructional on this very sneaky and highly under-used attack

  Wim calls it the King's Gambit but most people will have simply known of it as the Triangle Bait. You feed you arm in (or take one out) when in closed guard and tempt the bottom person to attack with a triangle choke...only to then find out you are tricking them into a smash style guard pass. I first saw this at a tournament many years who and tried it in sparring (without really knowing what I was doing) and I failed miserably so just forgot about it. Yet with Wim's set here, he offers so much exquisite detail that I found I was using it again and with much better success. What is interesting too is that Wim covers all his previous main concept techniques found on the other Mirroring Principle titles so you really only need to buy this one if you need an overview of those techniques. The King's Gambit is more than just a simple one-trick pony, Wim shows how he uses it in a variety of situations when trying to pass guard. I really like this set as it brings immediate tangible results.

• It could've easily be called 'how to do what no one else is doing'

  Wim's technical and tactical approach to the game, while also preserving your body for longevity, is key to his success on and off the mats. His philosophies are immediately applicable and - as you will notice - very high percentage. Opponents without an open mindset or training partners that are stuck in 'traditional' bjj philosophies will be confused after they tap and they will ask themselves over and over again "but how could this happen? I had him in a good position". Well that's where Wim's principles kick in, when you think you're winning, there is always an ace up his sleeve. Great stuff as always!
