This is pure gold
I liked it.
This is an excellent instructional with many gold nuggets of grappling knowledge. Wim is a very good teacher and has a perfect blend of conceptual and technical instruction. Most of these techniques/concepts I was able to apply immediately to become more 'ungovernable' on bottom. Some of the things Wim explains on using the baby bridge to off balance your opponent is mindblowing. It will make you realize that as long as you retain some mobility of the neck and spine you are able to generate pressure into your opponent and cause them to make mistakes such as giving up the underhook and so forth. There are also some invaluable lessons on his views on the basic movements of our art: the bridgeTand the shrimp. I had the pleasure to train with Wim at his gym in Belgium some six years ago and recommend visiting him and definitely buying this instructional. There are things explained in this instructional that I gradually have realized (and continue to realize!) apply over a broad range of grappling. Heavily recommended for both beginner and advanced. Thank you Wim!
If there is one instruction dvd that I would take to a lonely island it would be this one. Not only you learn techniques or mechanics you learn his fighting philosophy and concepts. Deputer is a great teacher as he is very capable to explain a lot of things in a very concise manner.
An innovative approach to Jiu Jitsu that really works - wholeheartedly recommend
Essence of Jiu Jitsu Review by Markus M. on 16 Feb 2023review stating Essence of Jiu JitsuFor me thisvprinciple perfectly represents the essence of jiu jitsu. It is about connection, mirroring and moving yourself while keeping your uke in place until you get an adventageous position to move the uke. First W. D. is explaining the mirroring principle form stand up, top and bottom. Then he shows it by executing the baby bridge and inside Read more about review stating Essence of Jiu Jitsushoulder escape. Followed by going deeply into kesa gatame from bottom perspective. The final techniques he is showing are some escapes of common attacks from side control as examples for this principles. Closed by some thoughts and his phylosophy and endgame theory which basically means train with each other and reverse engineer thectechniques. Highly recommend!
Wim is a great teacher. I have his other dvds as well and he never disappoints. Teh concepts are effective gi and no gi.
Excellent approach. Wim is an excellent instructor. This is an excellent instructional for those that love techniques outside the box.
I loved this instructional... Wim is a great instructor.
great
Love this! The subtle movements that are essential to make your technique more efficient.
This dvd is a gold in bjj and grappling. There is a lot pretty good things, tips, principles. All of these helps to be more confident in your game and overall. I recommend it for everyone, it is a necessary material to be strong in sparrings against different opponents. Thanks to Wim Deputter for his great work and for sharing knowledges.
If you want to improve your bottom positional game, you need to watch this.
This DVD is what I wish I had access to from DAY 1 of my Jiu-jitsu journey. Everything shown in it should be considered "fundamentals". The concepts I learned from this DVD made a lot of things a lot easier for me. A must buy IMO.
I didn´t know who this teacher was as I left for BJJ for many years but this DVD got me curious and really liked it, didn´t know the baby bridge or other framing concepts you get already in the first volume. As a guy who started in judo I liked the part about going to your knees at will, there are fine details about doing it well and don´t get choked.
I get really fascinate after watching the dvd... The hole system makes totally sense to me. I used the basic movements already against bigger and stronger opponents and it works great. Best move is the mount escape... I love this way! I push 120 kg guy away without using my upper body. Thx for the dvd
Love these concepts of connection and how you apply them in different bjj positions. Can’t wait to try this out on and off the mat too!
Though this DVD is mainly focused around escaping "bad" positions on bottom, it is so much more than a collection of techniques. Rather, it is a collection of key grappling concepts that can be applied to both improving the techniques you already know and to new situations/positions that you encounter in order to still achieve a result in your favour. I strongly recommend it to beginners looking to make sense of the overwhelming amount of information in the grappling arts, as well as to advanced practitioners who are keen to think deeper about their jiu jitsu and continue developing their skills.
