• Worth Every Penny

  I think this was one of the first instructionals I purchased when I started my bjj journey, which wasn't very long ago. The video quality is excellent and actually has an artistic feel to it. But more importantly, Roy is a true teacher. Some instructors are great competetors and ok at teaching. But Roy is clearly an excellent teacher with a passion for Jiu-Jitsu and conveying it in creative ways. Now that I'm a few years into my bjj journey I appreciate these fundamentals even more and find myself going back to review these timeless techniques. Worth every penny.

• A comprehensive and quality instructional

  This is a comprehensive Gi based instructional (2 hours long) and covers rolls and falls; fundamental BJJ movements (e.g. hip escaping, bridging, etc); takedowns; escapes including from the mount, side control and from the headlock; armlocks and armbars submissions from the guard and from the mount, chokes from the guard and the mount; sweeps from closed guard; submissions from the knee on the belly; back attack submissions; back escapes; guard passing; and leg locks. The last chapter of the instructional covers the triangle from a white belt approach to that of a black belt. Surprisingly other than the two knee on belly submissions that commence from side control this instructional does not cover submissions from side control. The production quality of this instructional is excellent and is a cut above most instructionals. Roy Dean’s instructions are clear and easily understood. As mentioned, the filming is excellent and when techniques are performed there is generally an original view, a close up with a different angle and an overhead view. This repetition with different views does help with learning the technique correctly. From my experience some instructionals have a lot of theory and talking as well as the technique and in contrast there are those instructionals that are more to the point and focus on teaching the technique. This instructional is more of a technique based instructional. Noting that the limitation that this instructional does not include side control submissions (hence the four star rating), this instructional would suit and benefit a person starting out on their BJJ journey or those that want to improve their techniques or equally those people teaching BJJ students. If this is you, then I think you will gain a lot from this instructional.

  Roy is an excellent teacher band one of the nicest people in the BJJ scene. Very smooth Jiu-Jitsu, both standing and on the ground. This instructional is for every white belt who wants good basic techniques, every blue belt who wants to refine his/her skills and for every instructor who appreciates a structured curriculum and high quality teaching.

• Pure class and excellent teaching style

  I really enjoyed this instructional, Roy has a very clear and precise way of articulating positions & diving deeper into each of the positions. His videos are excellent quality and at a very good pace, which gives you time to consume the lessons. This has helped me tremendously focus on fundamentals and improve my positioning in rolls.

• Great product

  Very well explained and demonstrated. It's nice to have a limited set of techniques to start practicing, that work well together and cover the fundamentals. What i don't like however, is that we don't get to download the content on the this site. Even though the product is paid for in full. But this is a critique of Bjj Fanatics and not the fault of Roy Dean.
