Basically my entire closed guard game is this dvd and it has served me well on the mats. Great stuff from Mr. Danaher.
I am writing this review just after hitting the pendulum sweep from the side scissor. Five different opponents my own skill level during sparring. This instructional made me take my closed guard back down from the shelf. This time with concepts instead of individual moves. There is no one like John Danaher.
I purchased this video after my professor candidly told me my closed guard was something that none of my sparring partners needed to worry about because it was so weak. The detail that Professor Danaher goes into on the sweeps allowed me to pinpoint my weaknesses in each sweep and I went from not being able to sweep anyone, to sweeping my training partners during nearly every roll. Cannot recommend this video enough, particularly for those of us struggling white belts.
Such a beautiful way to seed core concepts of positions. Very thorough and well-laid out.
This is great for new white belts; it explains how to go from starting position in bottom closed guard to a position where you can submit your partner by first unbalancing them. It is very clear and specific and gives step-by-step instructions, but John can be a bit verbose at times. If the idea of a college lecture turns you off, then this video might not be for you. Also John does repeat key points because this video is meant for beginners. If you aren't a while belt you might find it to be needlessly repetitive.
it is a science as well as an art. The basic and fundamental principles create the framework from which all other concepts follow. This is a whole new level of kinesthetic ****** intelligence.... bjj instruction par excellence.
Great video, but long winded
I am a drink through a fire hose kind of guy when I come to learning things I'm interested in. Professor Danaher really breaks down the techniques and makes the situations easy to look for and apply. I will be getting more of his content in the future to step up my game.
This is brilliant, learning quality techniques and having access to world class training you can't ask for more. 100% worth the investment.
Beginner or advanced students alike, this part of the series lays the groundwork for a thorough understanding and application of the closed guard game!
John is a genius.
Great!
Danaher helps to systematize your knowledge and make it works.
I’m giving five stars because the information is so good, however, I struggle with JD’s videos. I know this is blasphemy, but he is too damn repetitive and is a huge over-explainer. I find myself frequently wishing he would get to the point or move on to the next one. But like I said, with patience, you’ll pick up some solid information.
I've barely got past the 3rd video in this instructional because there is so much gold to absorb. I've never known anyone to break down anything martial arts related with such detail and clarity as Danaher does. This will be invaluable for my Closed Guard game as I put in the work to implement it.
I'm a 41 year old black belt and I needed to sharpen my fundamentals. This video without a doubt help improve my game. The instruction really caters to my learning style - high level of detail of 'how' and 'why'.
SUPERB!!!
Great for starters that needs more skills on fundamentals. JD the best professor in the world!!
Very Strong analysis and with that the student learns the principals of the sport and not a simple movements .
Love all of Danaher's instrtionals that i have gotten! He delivers fundamental jiu-jitsu techniques at an expert level. Recommend this and all his other instructionals to anyone training who wants to further their understanding of the sport.
I started 4 months ago and my professor and coaches are amazing but having access to these instructional videos at home has improved my closed guard retention In a matter of days
For the Christmas season I went ahead and picked up several videos on Black Friday. Danaher's treatment of all of his videos is completely head and shoulders above the others. The other instructionals are good too (esp. Lachlan), don't get me wrong. But there's good, and then there's JD, and the guy is flying at a completely different altitude. The reason: he's a high level BB practitioner of course, but he's also able to decompose BJJ into systems & principles like nobody else - that's his secret black-belt level skill, and he's truly a master at it. To really put it over the top, he can actually communicate these concepts better than anyone as well. I'm dead convinced that this content will really level up my game.
I don't trust many to learn REAL BJJ techniques, no one better then John Danaher. One of the best teachers in the game.
A great instructional by John Danaher showing the closed guard as a complete system. We often learn a technique as a single skill but in this video series we can find out the philosophy that lies beneath the technique.
This is a very helpful instructional that helps keep your fundamentals sharp. I find myself rewatching over and over before and after practice because there’s so much information.
