This isn't as in-depth as Danaher's Ageless Jiu Jitsu series, but it's a helpful and sobering look of where to focus as you age.
Great Material
Before the endless instructionals now on BJJ fanatics about rolling older there was this series, and as a mobility compromised practitioner, this has been essential in helping me develop a love for Jiu Jitsu mechanics as a whole and along with that developing a game based entirely on this approach. Although this is on escapes predominantly this openend my eyes to how to use Jiu Jitsu and develop a game that worked for me, and proved BJJ can be for anyone. Plus I still use these effective escapes all the time, which is certainly a good sign!
just technique no power.
Took it from the basics and then moved forward
Well detailed, good camera angles, practical and applicable for everyone
A lot of good escapes and good concepts.
Love this instructional. If you drill the techniques you will find they work well, despite the simplicity. I found it easy to understand and I have learned to deal with such annoying positions like the gift wrap and technical mount. The concepts are also very helpful.
Good instructional on escapes
The BJJ instructional video is well-structured and comprehensive. The instructor does a great job breaking down complex techniques into manageable steps.
this video will definitely increase your escape game 👍👍
This is simply great. One of the best instructionals I’ve seen.
Bjj is the art of the weak to survive the strong… we shouldn’t rely heavily upon athleticism.
T. R. created a series focused on mount and side control escapes and half guard based escapes. The mount escapes are mainly based on elbow escapes and trap and roll variations to reguard or land on top. The half guard part is based on reguarding and sweeping. It is concept focused and hevis referring to this concepts within every part. Recommend!
With the amount of instructional as out there is not difficult to find topic you want. However finding a good instructor, who can break down details and help you understand is not easy. This is a good one, simple and “mechanical” approach (as he puts it) helps to understand why things are done and what to look out for. This was a good purchase. Thank you
I enjoyed the simple approach to Jiu Jitsu and technical approach to solving problems. Prof R does really good job in highlighting details and providing a reason why each technique works. One of the things I like the most is that he always makes sure what all details are visible. Different angles make watching and studying very easy. Thank you
must watch this to add to your game
Thomas Rozdzynski advises that this instructional has been created to help older grapplers who are having difficulty freeing themselves from compromised positions after their explosive approach of pushing and pulling for escaping starts to fail. Techniques selected for this instructional have been chosen to allow you to escape mechanically (e.g., leverage, frames, wedges, etc) rather than relying on strength. Specifically, escapes are taught for mount, technical mount, side control including hip control (i.e., hip on hip opponent facing you) and reverse hip control (i.e., same as previous but opponent facing your feet) and half guard. The content is logically ordered. The instructional is taught in Gi and has a total runtime of 2 hours and 26 minutes. What sets this instructional apart from other escape instructionals is that there is more than just a series of effective techniques. Thomas Rozdzynski teaches his approach to escaping, which includes what to do and what to avoid; the different stages of escaping; understanding the position that you are in, which includes your opponent’s balance, their control points, whether their weight is distributed or centralised, the requirement for framing; and the need to use mechanical escapes rather than pushing and pulling the opponent; and he discusses the concepts of escaping the key positions covered in this instructional, including distributing the opponent’s weight prior to escaping, framing and controlling the position of the opponent, and before attempting to escape, the importance of keeping your opponent’s hands busy so that it is hard for them to attack effectively. Thomas Rozdzynski as shown in this instructional, is an effective instructor. He speaks clearly and logically and remains focused on the subject matter. His demonstrations are clear and consistent, however his demonstrations for this instructional are generally only filmed from either a side on view or a head on view. There were times I wished that different angles had been filmed and for the camera to have been focused on the instructor to better see the detail of a technique. The instructional was filmed with a fixed camera. Video (quality including lighting and focus) is good, however at times range could have been better (i.e., instructor and uke to fill the frame and less background). There are no issues with sound. From my perspective what is taught in this instructional is good BJJ for people of all ages. Key requirements taught for an effective positional escape include engaging the mind; not to reactively respond with force; and to instead respond with appropriate techniques that rely on good mechanics.
Many good pointers, I am glad I purchased it on sale. Unfortunately, it seems most of the camera angles were from just 1 angle and without close up adjustments which would have taken this video to the next level.
as a brown belt seeing all this gives me something to work on. great material
great instructional
excellent detail
Been out of the game for a long time and not a spring chicken anymore. Shows the techniques that I can use as I get closer to 60
Really appreciate the details I’m this instructional. Prof Thomas thank you, I will be using these concepts
I love the concepts, simple and technical. I recommend it
