Excellent content
A
Richardson helped me a lot with this instructional to understand the problems of this dangerous weapons. And he offers solutions to them which he says work in his knife sparring.
Sobering instructional - spends significant time pointing out how popular approaches aren't realistic (backed up with footage of actual edged weapon attacks).
Great Material
amazing course
Brilliant stuff very realistic and great way to train it. Believe me I know first hand.
Knife Defense For The Street
Good video. Burt Richardson is the eternal student. When he talks about martial arts, I always listen.
I bought this for the express purpose of picking it apart and gleaning a small fraction of potentially useful information. I know JKD is scoffed at by more modern martial artists, but I do appreciate much of what they do, even if there is a ton of variety under their infinitely large umbrella. That being said, every single knife defence I've seen publicly showcased has major flaws and the instructors are obviously not pressure testing it or sparring it. Burton, being the scientist he is, has done a great job of closing the impossibly large gaps the average martial artist has when defending against a knife with empty hands. Every time I was going, "that's not going to work", he was explaining why he chose that option or how he flows into a more useful option or defends against typical counters. While I've trained slightly different methods, his are generally more easily utilized by people whose first response is to grab. This uses natural reflexes and builds on it. Sure, it will prove effective for some who aren't regularly training (the most important quality to recommending this technique), but he builds on this for those that want to increase their odds, defend against a stronger opponent, and defend others. I'd definitely highly recommend this training!
Excellent, simple, and real world tested.. these techniques offer sound tactics in dealing with edged weapons ina. Realistic way. Recommend for anyone who lives or works ina field where you may encounter edged weapon attacks
Sound principles and fundamental techniques presented in an effective manner. Realistic expectations are set for potential encounters with bladed weapons and an easy-to-follow approach is provided for beginners and experienced fighters alike. Highly recommended for both military/law enforcement and civilians.
Realistic insights into the difficulties of knife defense and how to train for it. Personally I found it better than traditional martial arts approaches (although not all that optimistic on being able to apply the techniques without a LOT of practice with different partners)
The fact that he breaks down real life situations make this amazing to break down. This is the best for instructors
Definitely worth it
great info well worth it
Interesting approach to knife defence. It is obvious that this have been created through hours and hours of sparring and hard training. However I find that the focus on disarming while standing up instead of taking to the ground first is somewhat un-intuitional for me and not the most straight forward way to go.
Excellent
Wasn't familiar with Burton, but after seeing he was associated with the Inoue brothers and Baret, it was a no brainer that he's legit. Awesome info on knife defense that makes sense and is proven against resistance in training. Highly recommended to have in your toolbox for these crazy times.
great stuff
Excellent course. Highly recommended. Good instructor.
It's always wonderful to learn from Coach Richardson. His videos are entertaining yet very informative. Coach Burton knows what he's talking about as he brings in his years of training in different arts and real life tested experiences to teach you no BS knife defense.
Very useful real knife defense
One of the most intelligent takes on knife defense I have seen
