Amazing Z Guard Instructional
I have been able to implement a small fraction of what Craig teaches in this instructional and I’ve seen huge improvement in my knee shield and a guard attacks.
I have a few other Z-guard instructionals by Craig, so I was a bit worried I was going to be wasting money on this one. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a bit of an evolution from the previous instructionals and does a much better job talking about how to defend the position. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who plays low knee shield.
This instructional has been phenomenal. I am using it to setup sweets and subs. Craig truly has made Z guard great again!
“Make Z-Guard Great Again” by Craig Jones is an excellent tutorial. I am a black belt in judo and blue belt in BJJ, 69 years old, and have done other martial arts as well. First of all, Craig knows his stuff and it’s clear in his explanations and demonstrations. It also helps that he is very articulate. Second, his uke, Tyler, is brilliant in his role; not only is he obviously very skilled in BJJ, Tyler’s mind is like an extension of Craig’s, and he reads Craig’s intentions and does what needs to be done to assist with the teaching just amazingly well. Third, Craig explains the motivation for a particular approach. For example, if he shows a defense against a pass, he thoroughly covers that pass itself, so the student learns both sides of it, i.e. not only does the student learn how to use the Z-guard, but how to defeat it, as well. Fourth, the tutorial is quite comprehensive. Fifth, it’s obvious that tori and uke practiced their moves before filming, as their movements are smooth and flawless, showing the viewer all the relevant angles. Fifth, the quality of the video and sound are both very good – kudos to the videographer.
Craig Jones is awesome and everything he puts out is incredible!
Excellent content. Helped me see the attacking possibilities from a position I mainly used for defensive purposes.
I love this instructional. The transitions between zguard and other guards are really useful
This is a great addition to anyone's half guard game. I've been able to implement a lot of what Craig shows in this DVD right away during my rolls.
Craig's newest Z-guard instructional covers his classic moves with good detail and adds in new concepts that really help put everything together. A great addition for anyone who likes to play half guard!
great updates to Craigs zguard game. I love his style of teaching.
great details and concepts. one of the best half guard instructionals
First Z guard instructional for me, Craig teaches it well - easy to understand and implement into my game.
Craig breaks down the guard immensely well, goes into great detail. Must buy.
If serious about improving your z guard then this is the dvd for you
great instructional, Thanks
Craig does a great job breaking down the Z guard and how to attack both the upper and lower body while keeping your partner off balance.
great instructional, plenty of details , by far the best z guard specific instructional on the market i have rewatched a couple of times and had success adding this to my game
Craig doesn't skimp on details and actively tries to avoid just "implying" anything, he wants to show a move thoroughly, how to do it, all common defenses used against that move, how to react to the defense, etc. Watching this multiple times is a must and is absolutely worth it, referencing it will also be a good idea to pick up on small details if you may have missed when trying these moves on the mat.
Some believe argue that z guard was never great... but I disagree. Look how strong the z guard was in the 80s under Reagan. Or the post world war 2 boom the Z guard had... when all the GIs came back, started having families and using the z guard in the training room. Fast forward to now and Craig really shook up the establishment with this resurgence. Sure I do not always agree with his rhetoric or methods, but ultimately he gets the job done. I believe his last fight with Pedro was stolen from him. Someone tampered with the judges scoring system.
This has helped my game a lot. Craig really explains it well and he is obviously world class
