Amazing techniques for side control to clamp, using leg log entries for sweeps
definitely helps my overall game, no question
John Danaher’s Submission Escapes DVD is an absolute game-changer for anyone serious about improving their defensive skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What sets this instructional apart is not just the depth and detail of the techniques but the underlying principles that make them effective. Danaher doesn’t simply show you how to escape submissions—he systematically breaks down why these escapes work, providing a conceptual framework that allows you to navigate high-pressure situations with confidence. One of the most impressive aspects of this instructional is the structured approach to escaping from the defensive cycle. Rather than treating defense as a passive act, Danaher emphasizes proactive survival strategies that seamlessly transition into counter-offense. This means you’re not just avoiding submissions—you’re actively setting up opportunities to reverse the position and regain control. The explanations are incredibly thorough, breaking down even the smallest nuances that can make or break an escape. Whether it’s dealing with armbars, triangles, or strangles, Danaher provides clear, logical progressions that make complex movements accessible. His ability to articulate key concepts—such as connection, posture, and lever control—ensures that you don’t just memorize techniques but truly understand how and why they work. For anyone looking to build an unshakable defensive foundation while also developing a strategic pathway to counter-attacks, this DVD is essential. Highly recommended for grapplers of all levels who want to elevate their game beyond just surviving and start escaping with purpose.
immediate escape
This is a great instructional with tons of must-have concepts which are explained really well. The counterattacks are a bit leg-lock heavy though so might be a bit overwhelming for someone new. Still, overall an exceptional instructional from one of the best coaches out there.

Thought I knew how to escape..
Awesome
Very thorough and helpful as a beginner’s tool for pin escapes.
My favourite instructional. Helps understand the positions and how to escape straight into attacks, breaking the defensive cycle that I can get stuck in.
It’s a Tier 1 BJJ Instructional Video!

Johnny D is delivering as always
I watched John's Pin and Turtle Escapes years ago. This video is awesome because of the added element of immediate entry into attacks off our escapes, but also because Danaher's instruction has clearly refined in that time. It's very cool to see that Danaher only gets better with time.
Super detailed and clear concepts and techniques
Amazing
Great instructional. Offers you not only great escapes but great attacking escapes. It’s gave me a new mind set in relation to not just being satisfied with escaping. I now escape with attack in mind and it’s really improved my game.
