This is one of the best instruction knows I’ve ever bought. Since I bought this one I have purchased all the other ones he has made. Great teaching techniques very easy to follow and understand. I like he doesn’t use too much time talking and doesn’t drag it out, before he shows it technique and moves to the next one. I’m also hoping BJJ fanatics will send me an autograph of Bernardo 😊
I have used this DVD for a while and it really provides you with certainty over what attacks to use. Side control pins have been my best position, but getting the sub has also been an issue. What I have found from using this DVD is that you need to start pushing people down the path from entering the position. I recommend focusing on these techniques as combinations and drilling them a large amount until they're second nature.
Excellent Side Control attacking strategies. I highly recommend this one!
I have allot of great tutorials From BJJ Fanatics from various instructors. This is perhaps my favorite and most valued. a must have in my opinion.
Great instructional. For beginners and even more advanced levels. Basic submissions that world champions still use a lot in competition. Very clearly explained and shown.
Perfect, is on high level and and everything is done good I think about the production too. The instructors showed the techies from every angel
Detailed, clear and concise. Very helpful video from a classic instructor who has a wealth of knowledge.
Great techniques, very reliable and solid. Clear explanations and instructions. Important details highlighted while avoiding excessive talking. Easy to translate to your jiu jitsu on the mats. Would recommend without hesitation if you want to submit more people from side control more often.
Solid techniques taught by one of the best professors of all time. Must have tutorial and presented in a simple comprehensive manner.
Professor Gurgel is a legend who developed lot of the foundations of the sport. As predictable, the more “seasoned” players will find a lot of things they already know in the instructional. On the other side, everything is explained in a perfect way, full of details (where the devil is)… talking about them, the instructional is a must have for all the beginners, to implement the foundations of the side control properly. For the others, is an occasion to reprise those basis and master them with the above said details. The other thing that makes this dvd highly recommended is the choice and order of technique, chained in group in the flow of the possible reactions of the opponent/training partner.
Awesome details on how to have better control so it’s easier to snag a submission.
I am a big fan of Fabio Gurgel A great BJJ instructor, with simple and clear way of describing a set of comprehensive of positions and attacks Thanks Ed
Great intructional dvds!
This instructional teaches how to submit from and improve your ability to control from side control top. The submissions are described as old school and I believe that old school in this context is to control, pressure, and submit opponents with simple (i.e. efficient) and effective submissions. Fabio Gurgel is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu 6th degree black belt and he has written two BJJ books and created a range of instructionals. This instructional consists of four volumes and the submissions are organised around how the opponents far arm is trapped / controlled in relationship to your head and where the opponent’s inside arm is placed in relationship to your body. Volume one covers initially the options to position yourself in side control top, with the aim of keeping your opponent’s back flat on the mat and the submission techniques taught include armbars, kimura, chokes and a shoulder lock. Volume two covers armbars, a triangle and an americana. Volume three covers multiple chokes including kata gatame. Volume four includes techniques to frustrate the opponent’s attempts to escape and several control techniques. I find that Fabio is a great teacher. He presents well, is easy to understand and when he describes the technique step by step, it accurately reflects what he is doing. I note that sometimes other instructors describe techniques and when you watch them demonstrating the technique, they are making other movements, but these movements are not mentioned. I also like that Fabio is wearing a blue Gi and his uke a white Gi, as I think this makes it easier to see what is happening. Sound and picture quality are good. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. I personally like submissions described as old school, as from my experience they work. Additionally, you generally don’t have to be super athletic or flexible. This instructional will appeal to people who wish to learn solid submissions from side control top and also improve their ability to control their opponent in side control. This instructional is 2 hours long.
Fabio Gurgel provides great details and systematic and practical approaches to working in side control. Clearly communicated I have no doubt these will improve my game!
100% one of the best instructions o have ever seen
Every instructional I've purchased through Fanatics has been awesome––but this one might be my favorite. As an older player who is also a newcomer to BJJ, I appreciate instruction that is clear, precise, and that relies heavily on fundamentals. Professor Fabio "The General" Gurgel delivers on every level. This man is a champion who trains champions (Marcelo Garcia and Bernardo Faria just to name a few), yet he is able to break down technique in a way that is accessible to the BJJ novice. The way this living legend controls his opponents, manages space, and maintains pressure is a thing of beauty to watch. I can't wait to practice these techniques on the mat!
