The most comprehensive realistic takedown instructional on BJJ Fanatics. It seems a bit dated but the takedowns and concepts have not changed! Incredible value!
Practical. Succinct
The perfect complement to Jiu Jitsu and grappling training on how to develop a solid fundamental positioning and takedown game applicable to Gi, No Gi and MMA. Highly recommended!
easy takedown.
A solid instructional on developing the clinch and setting up takedowns. A lot of drills to improve your skill set in your standing game.
Very good stand-up instructional. I come from judo and had very little experience on how to do things no gi. This DVD helped me greatly to understand how to do thing without the gi, what are the grips you get, how to control opponent with what you have. I greatly recommend it.
This is possibly my all time favorite instructional. The concepts taught have transformed my standup game so much that I now love to stand up, and this has transformed my overall strategy. Highly recommend this for anyone who wants to learn stand up but doesn't want to launch double leg takedowns. If standup turns you off because you don't feel athletic enough do yourself a favor and watch this.
Very useful details!
Stephen Whittier was and is so far ahead of the parade with takedowns and grappling in general it is scary. This video is so comprehensive and it is an encyclopedia of theory and practice. I have seen many advertisements on takedowns and new progressive jiu-jitsu, so far I have not seen anything not covered in this series.
Coach Stephen and SBG are ahead of the curve in many aspects of combat sports. You get the Why and the How. Not to mention concepts you can apply elsewhere. This is the best value takedown course on BJJ Fanatics.
Awesome product
Professor S .W. teaches how to get and keep your structure to get and dominate the clinch and hit your takedowns while avoiding counters. You get set ups and finishes for jiu jitsu and mma. Highly recommend!
If you don't want a long list of counter vs counter instructional that branches out into infinity, these products by SBG are golden. Whittier gives us the most simple and fundamental ways to clinch and go into takedowns. Furthermore, I learned a very important philosophical lesson. Common takedowns like single and double legs are not fundamental. Why? They require too much athleticism. If you want something that's just always going to work, no matter what your age or fitness level, then clinching should be your first step to the takedown. I thank the instructor for teaching me this.
I've done judo and wrestling, and this course still gave me new insights into effective takedowns.
Really interesting and useful. I only don't like the audio recording.
I'm a Judo guy that cross-trains in BJJ. I have no wrestling experience. I found this instructional bridged that gap when it comes to the no-gi BJJ stand-up game. There are some interesting concepts that get elaborated and have really helped me get better and to get more confidence. Definitely worth checking out.
Very good material to practice
Excellent series by excellent teacher! Very thorough! I plan on eventually picking up all of his series.
Good Skill at standing position
Excellent instructions. Diversity of techniques. Clear communication.
Some BJJ schools don’t train enough standup, takedowns from clinching. Recently we started clinching and takedowns for Pan / Dallas and once I saw this video available I bought it. Basic knowledge but effective and a must for your library. Highly recommend for all levels.
Coming from a gi only background and recently switching to mostly no-gi, The Pillars Clinch And Takedowns By Stephen Whittier has been great to get the basics and give me all thats necessary to make me feel much more comfortable in my standing game.
If you don't have years of judo or wrestling on your shoulders, this instructional is perfect for you. It really give you a progression with a just mix of basic and advanced concepts/techniques.
I like the details he has, but it takes SOOO long to get through. still great content. Danaher-ish.
good video. very progressive.
