I was hoping for more concepts about distance and how to apply them, but the instructional is actually 10 techniques from three main distances. While the content and instruction were good, I was slightly disappointed. Gui has a great teaching style and explains why he does the variations of techniques he does. A lot of content wasn’t new, but Gui’s variations are little gems that bump this up to 4 stars.

Covers near distance (closed guard), middle distance (de la riva and reverse de la riva), far distance plus some sparring a analysis. I’ve made it through the first two sections and have taken away a lot of value. His best instructional yet in my opinion and worth the money.

This instructional was detailed and eye-opening. Professor Gui broke down positions from the guard (near, medium, and far distances) and explained concepts on how to approach each situation effectively based on some scenarios. He also gives his personal perspective on his own sparring videos and competition videos of his students displaying concepts/techniques that are in the video.

I have been watching instructional videos for a long time now, as an instructor for children, beginners and as a learner. This second DVD from Professor Gui is a gem, just like his first instructional video on guard passing. Professor Gui gives you more than just useful and effective techniques. He explains his own game in depth, the reasons for the use of each technique, his experience, his knowledge and gives you something valuable that is coherent, easy to understand and apply. Each technique has its purpose and the deep understanding of distance management will change your game in depth. I was able to pass on the content of the first DVD to my students and let me tell you that their level has evolved very quickly. Some of them manage to pass the guard of purple belts like it was nothing. I'm still amazed by their evolution and mine has change drastically too. It's a must have, nothing less. I recommend you to buy (eyes closed) the 2 dvds of Professor Gui to level up your game AND your understanding of BJJ. Get ready to be hooked ;)
