Prof Stephen's this DVD is a real road map for beginners. He has some unorthodox and conceptual ideas which you can instantly apply on the mat. For example the bottom side control and bottom mount positions he suggests are different from what is mainly thought in schools but i can say they really apply and makes sense. Thanks.
Stephen puts a lot of emphasis on theory and concepts and his approach and mindset should prove to be very helpful. My BJJ can certainly use some acceleration.
Stephen can be adopted early and used throughout your bjj career. The video quality is excellent and he is a really good teacher.
Coach Whittier really breaks down the essentials of BJJ conceptually and practically in a logical format. By far the best money I’ve spent on any instructional. This is a must have!
I love Stephen's approach to simplify the techniques that actually work.
The best bang for your buck! Simple but effective techniques that will improve your game immediately!
One word. Thank you! If on doubt, buy!
I have purchased many of Stephen‘s instructionals. His focus on fundamentals and concepts is very different than the average dvd. I purchased this particular instructional for my wife who just started BJJ. She’s enjoying this video immensely, and It is helping her progress consistently in her training.
Having watched many hours of instructionals from various big names, I had always wanted to give some of Steve Whittier’s instructionals a try. He talked a really good game in his approach. But I had heard good talk before and already had so much stuff to look at. And let’s face it, a lot of this “BJJ shortcut” stuff out there is meh...... Well I got a short set from him (BJJ accelerator course) almost on just a whim. The theory is short, to the point, and based on the process of learning. It hacks how to get the most out of learning and applying BJJ skill instead of trying to hack a certain move set. He then combines that with concepts of positioning, posture, and Rickson style connection as well as a situation sparring process (something I have always advocated as superior to the focus on the free roll that we all see in so many places) to give some really easy ways to build the base of the BJJ tree. It’s about learning how, within each position, to be in a proper posture to win those initial battles so that you have a solid base from which you can launch the collection of techniques you have been learning for escaping, sweeping, and submitting. Me and one of my coaches were playing around with his bottom side mound position and laughing at how silly / simple it was. We still need to test it more but for something that took 5 minutes to learn it was very very very cool. In short I think it may one of the best instructionals I have ever seen and I am looking forward to learning a lot more from him. Oh yeah OSSSS!
I've enjoyed many Stephen Whittiers instructionals. Lot of them make sense, but real value comes from the mat lab. Today I tested the first position: sidecontrol under progressive resistance and it was good. Opponent could not improve his position or submit me even thou I let them take their best possible position. I know I was not perfect in transfering against stepping over my head (spinning back take - more practise and bottom side control will be a position where I can catch my breath...)
