The best introduction to butterfly!!
Struggled to understand butterfly guard till this instructional. Clear breakdown of how to elevate for sweeps. Full examples from each major grip strategy. No longer get stuck with no moves when blocked from a specific position.

Professor Satava's break down of the butterfly guard is excellent. I am new to Jiu Jitsu and a white belt, but this is highly accessible content. I may not be using any of this for a little while, however I feel like it's setting me up for great success! Thanks Jon Satava and BJJ fanatics
By far the best instructions and easiest to understand!
Everyone will always tell you the basics are the best moves to learn and they are usually what works best in competition. In my opinion its best to learn from the people that can make the same move work over and over again even when their opponent knows its coming. Jon's instructions make learning so easy. He is very clear and detailed oriented. There's so many amazing details that make all the difference in actually landing the move. Jon is by far one of the best instructors not just in New York but on the planet.

Jon Satava is easily one of the most underrated instructors on this site. This instructional is clear, concise, and has been incredibly helpful with adding butterfly guard to my game. I've tried to use a few different instructionals to help me understand butterfly guard but none have explained the underlying concepts of it as well as Jon does, especially when trying to apply it to the gi. Love these techniques and can't wait for more from Jon!

Excellent details and principles for playing butterfly guard. The underlying concepts and gripping strategies are deceptively simple but lead to sweeping people with a lot of success. Can't wait for more from Satava, hopefully gi single leg x/x guard next?
Butterfly Guard in the Gi Review
Satava's details do not disappoint. He is one of the best butterfly guard players and has a wealth of knowledge you can apply to your game. This instructional has a different approach due to the camerawork for a change and it's refreshing to see the details. I believe it is important not to keep long shots but also include these cut shots to see different details of the technique. Was impressed with this production. A must have for anyone who wants to learn the butterfly!
