Amazing as always from Henry Akins. There are levels and Henry Akins is on another level; a different and unique approach based on small details that maximise effectiveness. You won’t find these escapes being taught anywhere else.
This video is awesome from a survival perspective, and it will benefit students at all levels. He gives the big picture and the small details for each technique. Once a choke is set, you have very small margin for error. Henry shows you how to make better decisions in those situations. To survive is to win…
YOU NEED THIS SERIES!
I’ve only just discovered Henry Akin’s work and just let me tell you, his stuff is on another level. Must buy.
Great escapes, succinct and effective teaching. Loved the escapes from d'arce and triangle.
Henry is distilling great Rickson's knowledge right to us! He is a great teacher and his teaching style is simple yet efficient. Great course to escape for difficult positions.
Loves Henry’s stuff. It’s easy,efficient and works
Learnt a lot from this dvd. Some escapes are obvious or really intuitive (as the one for the nutcracker), others really well known (as the one from the back strangles)… but others are pure gold, as the ones from katagatame. Moreover, you will learn a lot about the strangles by understanding their weak points. The quality of the product is great, Henry Akins a really great teacher. I appreciate the extra material, like the “discussions” with his ukes. Highly recommended.
This instructional is a game changer. Techniques effective, explanations very detailed. Escaping improved. It is a must have. Read less
This instructional has changed my game more drastically and more quickly than probably any of the other instructionals I've worked with (and that's probably more than 50 over the last 12 years) Fair warning: the Akins Armlock Escapes instructional has had a similar impact and will receive a similar review. Henry Akins understanding of chokes, how they work, and the positioning necessary makes it possible to for him to escape positions that were always "game over" for me before. I now review (there is a lot here) and drill these escapes, especially his escapes for all types of guillotines, very regularly. I've shared many details with training partners; we often laugh about how simple and effective they are.
Excellent video…techniques work well. exposure to chokes not seen as often and good choke escapes from very difficult positions
Objective of this instructional The aim of this instructional is to improve your ability to defend/escape chokes (i.e. to survive) with the added benefit of not wasting energy and ultimately making you more comfortable and confident in your grappling. Content Volume 1 (52 minutes) covers in summary, escaping/defending the cross collar choke (from closed guard top & mount bottom), the push-pull choke (attacking from closed guard top and defending from closed guard bottom), the Ezekiel (closed guard bottom), nut-cracker (from closed guard top), and head and arm choke (from side control bottom and mount bottom). Volume 2 (48 minutes) covers in summary escaping/defending the triangle (closed guard top), clock choke (turtle), and rear ***** choke including when you have been flattened. The rear ***** chokes escapes are so simple and impressive. Volume 3 (1 hour) covers in summary, escaping/defending the darce when either under or on top of your opponent, anaconda (from turtle), guillotine (from the knees and closed guard top) and chinstrap choke (from turtle). Volume 4 (49 minutes) covers in summary escaping/defending the papercutter (side control), bow and arrow (back and side control), bulldog (while on all fours), and guillotine (from standing). In addition, there are two additional chapters taught by one of Henry Atkin’s black belts (Matt Jones) dealing with escaping the baseball choke when passing an opponent’s closed guard, from knee ride bottom and from an attack when standing. This instructional is presented in a relaxed manner and utilises two black belt ukes. Henry Atkins demonstrates the techniques, provides clear instructions, and also provides a discussion around each technique. The pace is good. As with the other Henry Atkin instructionals that I have purchased I found it easy to stay engaged with the content. Sound and picture quality are good, however the video quality of the two bonus chapters dealing with escaping the baseball choke is poor. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. The total length of the instructional is 3 hours and 29 minutes long and it is comprised of 37 chapters. Clearly it is important to be able to escape chokes quickly and effectively, as they are such a common form of submission. This instructional is taught in the GI and would have to be the most comprehensive instructional on escaping chokes. The techniques are impressive - simple and effective. The only surprise is that triangle chokes are dealt with in two chapters, one dealing with a situation where the triangle has yet to be locked and relies on a postural response to defeat the opponent and a second technique that is described as a last ditch defence when the triangle has been locked. In summary, this is an excellent instructional and is a worthwhile addition to your instructional library if you wish to improve your ability to defend/escape chokes.

Top notch instruction.
when you watch these choke escapes, you start to understand why Rickson's jiu jitsu was what it was. having been his student for years, Henry's fundamentals are as solid as a rock can be. with very little adjustments, chokes effectiveness just disappear. the 'impossible' escape from the belly down completely locked RNC is a great example of the depth of this tutorial.
Highly recomend this dvd it has many details and insights That i didnt know or have seen yet. Really enjoy it so far and will probaly end rewatchting a couple times over
