Defense Wins Championships by Kyle Dake
This video was a game-changer for my takedown defense. Dake is one of the best wrestlers ever, and his defense is unmatched (go watch his match against Burroughs in the Olympic trials earlier this year). It's been a huge asset to my grappling game. If you're getting taken down by wrestlers all the time like me, you need this video.

MG covers the North South choke in more detail than I've ever seen in another video. He covers multiple entries and dives deep into the details of finishing the choke, as well as reacting to common defenses and repositioning when things go wrong. I owe a good chunk of my Brown Belt through Black Belt development to Coach Frankl and this series in particular. Coach Frankl is incredible at taking one fundamental movement/structure and using that to build a solid complete game. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fundamentally sound way of surviving and defending against aggressive training partners and immediately turning that aggression into your advantage.

No Gi Open Guard Volume 2: De La Riva & Waiter by Lachlan Giles
Although I will admit that I was holding off on Lachlan’s Nogi Open Guard course at first, (love his material but I’d Just gotten Danahers), when Volume 2 dropped I reviewed the topics and it immediately peaked my interest. And man did it deliver. The breakdowns of the Leg Entanglements from DLR and pathways to the back… not to mention that I wasn’t very well versed in the Waiter Sweeps… this course is pure Gold! And if you follow Lachlan you know as an instructor he is one of the elite. Chapter 7 was my favorite but overall every chapter is money. This is a must have!

Junny's Passing The Guard: Outside/Inside Passing, Knee Shield, Chain Passing by Junny Ocasio
The effort Junny put into creating this instructional is obvious from the sheer comprehensiveness of his content. He shows each level of his passing system in depth, along with a multitude of variations and responses you'll experience with each technique. This allows you to train what you learn in the instructional as a system, rather than just a collection of techniques. Junny's teaching style is intentional and precise. His instructions are clear, and he takes time to show details of the techniques from different angles without slowing the pace so much that you get bored like a lot of instructionals do. Overall, this is a well constructed instructional that displays a highly effective passing system for modern nogi jiu jitsu. Definitely recommend.

The Armlock Obsession by Dave Camarillo
I've always been a fan of Camarillo's teaching style, and this didn't disappoint. His method is outlined nicely and details are otherworldly. Who knew there was this much to the humble armlock we all learn on week one? Well, a lot. Camarillo has answered questions to challenges I had maintaining good armlocks without knowing what I was missing. My finish rate is much higher and my approach to the armlock is a lot different after this. He identified some small mistakes I was making that made a huge difference. Do yourself a favor and join the Legion of Arm Hunters! You won't be disappointed.

The kipping escapes alone are so fun to pull off and have made bottom mount almost desirable to be put in.

John does a great job narrowly covering one concept that will help in all aspects of your BJJ. He doesn’t drift into a dozen different directions away from the core concept. Therefore, you get a very comprehensive understanding of the iron pillow and how it can expand every part of your game.

The Shoulder Pin Guard System by Neil Melanson
This instructional teaches the shoulder pin, which is where you use your arms and one leg to control the opponent’s shoulder and arm from a guard position, usually closed or half guard. Once the opponent has their shoulder pinned and they are controlled it provides the opportunity to apply a range of submissions. The submission techniques taught include triangle chokes, a very nasty choke (i.e., Neil’s Knot), shoulder locks, armbars, omaplata, kimura, hammerlock, Gogo clinch choke and King Pin neck lock. In addition, there is solid coverage of the shoulder pin itself and some other associated techniques. To see the complete list of techniques taught, please review the contents of the instructional. In this instructional Neil Melanson teaches in a relaxed manner with some banter with his uke. He explains and demonstrates techniques in a succinct and clear manner. Picture and sound quality are good as is the range of the single fixed camera. Neil Melanson moves so that you can see the techniques being performed from different angles. As is the norm, techniques are repeated several times. The available previews are consistent with the whole instructional. The instructional is 3 hours long and comprises 23 chapters. This is a solid and interesting instructional that I am pleased that I have purchased. I like having the opportunity to watch and learn from a range of instructors teaching BJJ techniques and after watching this instructional I immediately purchased a second Neil Melanson instructional. If you enjoy playing from the guard or having a good guard this instructional should help.

What I liked most about the instructional was that it utilized the principal of off balancing your opponent as not only a defense against submissions but an opportunity to counter with sweeps, front Headlock, back takes, and open guard recovery.
