One of my favorites!
Great info on the scarf hold, I'm looking froward to applying this in training.
Great instructor - great video
Great instruction. Loved the basic principles and details. Easy to digest.
Henry is a really good teacher and his content is practical and unique. His perspectives are not like other coaches, due to his time under Rickson. That is one of the reasons I own all of his work.
This instructional from Henry is fantastic! In recent rolls I have found myself in the scarf hold position but unable to quite maintain it. These lessons have definitely given me some insight to try hold the postion longer and add pressure!
Henry is one of the best instructors in BJJ world. Not too many guys teach scarf hold in bjj - and probably no one teach this position as good as Henry. There is a lot of details in this course, which makes this position real game changer. I tapped out a lot of guys using this techniques - and a lot of them tapped just to pressure. Henry shows details is such a simple way, that you can apply this to your game very fast. And this have impact not only for this specific situation (scarf hold) - you can use it to improve your whole game.
Great details and entries. Well worth it.
I love the scarf hold and the details from this video make me love it even more.
Amazing content well delivered by Henry, this position has become one of my favourites and I'm finding a lot of success with it after implementing Henry's teachings.
Great instructional about something "forbidden" like allowing my opponent an underhook in this position. I stopped counting the number of americanas and kimuras I got from this position. Great weapon into arsenal of anyone.
This video can change your game. It even shows how to submit your opponent with the Soul Stealer (kesa gatame) from Bottom Side Control and shows video of one of Henry's students pulling off the move in tournament competition from bottom side control. Need I say more? Oh yeah, go watch Josh Barnett vs Dean Lister on youtube and see someone who had NEVER lost by submission get his soul taken.
Professor Henry Akins out did himself again! As he points out the sarf hold is a position that you can catch so often or even set it up by suprise that I really wanted to understand this position and how to utilize it for my offense. Before this instructional it was just my last resort pin to not get taken the back. By diving into this details of keep the hold and counter their escape attempts it opened a whole new spot of attack submissions from there or even with the hold itself. It's about utilizing your hips and controlling the elbow and pf course proper weight distribution and shift! Highly recommend!!!
Akins takes you on a deep dive into this position and it covers EVERYTHING you will ever need to know about this position! I can’t imagine that Akins has left out anything that you need to know about the scarf hold. A must get if you are interested in dominating from this often neglected position.
Highly effective and comprehensive control and submission system from the scarf hold. Henry is always thoroughly engaging to watch. I have used this system very effectively over the last year.
Great instructional on entering and maintaining the position and multiple submissions.
This instructional is absolutely fantastic and filled with tons of intricate essential details to make the kesa gatame position work. It shows some of the many entries to kesa as well as how to maintain the position w your legs, lats, weight and posture. And it even shows how you can really truly apply the pressure in kesa gatame. the instructional also briefly shows what is essentially nino guard on bottom and how you can effortlessly roll them into normal kesa gatame.
I havent really used this in class because we are mostly doing positional training and the instructor hasnt taught anything like this, but I brought it to my martial arts club and played around with it, not only did i lock down my training partners, but the judo guys got all excited. it was different then their kisagatame and they all wanted to see the details that were different. My work schedule has prevented me from doing the open mats in my area, but I am looking forward to trying it on more BJJ centric people.
Don't tell your friends about this. Just show them on the mats. Trust me they will want to know what you just did. Have fun.
The techniques in here are the best I’ve seen for scarf hold. Completely game-changing.
Nothing short of amazing. Have immediatly became a staple within my game.
Great instructional. There are so many details given during the presentation and demonstrations to help with the position. The outtake discussion adds tremendous value to the series. Highly recommend.
Henry came up the right way under Rickson relentlessly focusing on the fundamentals and principles of jiu jitsu rather than just accumulating techniques. It's clear in his instruction he has a profound understanding of the nuances in position that lead to total control and submission.
You don’t find many instructionals on the Scarf Hold, let alone anything this good. Henry Akins is on another level and this is the only instructional on the subject that you’ll ever need. Hoping to hit many of these techniques in class.
This video is fantastic and provides a wealth of detailed knowledge regarding an under utilized position. Henry has an easy to follow, methodical teaching style. He takes his time to explain each technique. I like how he reviews as he progresses through the training, explains how the opponents may respond and demonstrates in detail how to counter. I was able to add the scar fold to my game after watching this video once. I have continued to watch this video and am amazed how quickly this has improved my BJJ.
