Epic video. Professor Atkins kept speaking on how little adjustments made your opponent/ training partner feel like they were drowning on dry land. He couldn’t be more right. Lessons were very well thought out. (As a white belt I know nothing) Kesa Gatami is now my go to. With very little understanding I’m tapping higher level belts.
This is gold, brilliant details! Loved how Henry covers entries which I havent seen been covered anywhere else and is so crucial for kesa. Really liked the outtakes as well.
Clear and concise lessons. Master Akins is a fantastic teacher, he gets are right to the point. Video length is good.
Awesome lessons, I’ve been teach g my wife my limited knowledge and these lessons are definitely helping expand her and my own breadth of knowledge. Definitely recommend.
Lots of great details on one of my favourite positions
I was happy to see an instructional about scarf hold. I have mild success with it from my limited knowledge from Japanese jiu jitsu but this really locked down the fine details and now ill be crushing fools after lock down 😀
Good stuff for us old guys, basic yet devastating. As someone who isn't as spry or flexible, this is a great way for me to control opponents without emptying the gas tank...
This is a fantastic instructional, and not much instructional material is available on this subject. Just the position itself generates so much pressure on the diaphragm to the point it is a submission... One of the things I enjoy about this instructional is Prof Akins elaborates on how to methodically negate the defenses (eg body locking and bridging, framing, trying to put hooks in to take the back, etc) to this under-utilized pin. Henry Akins is one of the best teachers in my opinion in a field where there are so many great ones to learn from.
The instructional is organised into 4 parts covering: entering the scarf hold, maintaining the position, enhancing the pressure on your training partner and submissions. As experienced in his other instructional “Mount Attacks” Henry’s instructions are clear, detailed and easily understood. Your understanding of this position is further enhanced with the inclusion of some outtakes were several of the techniques are further discussed with a brown belt and a black belt. The camera angles and the quality of the sound recording are good. The instructional is 3 hours and 12 minutes long. Scarf hold is a powerful position, where if you know how to maintain this position will put your training partner / opponent under a lot of pressure and provide you with good opportunities to submit them. The submissions taught are low risk for the person in the top position.
I truly enjoyed this instructional. Henry Akins breaks down a seldom used position and made it very easy to incorporate into my game.
Great details, can't wait to try it on the matt
Last year, one of my instructors noted that I landed in the scarf hold position often when I spared. He offered a couple of submissions I could use from the position. As a result I began submitting people with much more regularity. When I saw a scarf hold instructional being offered I was intrigued. Growing my skills and developing some mastery on a go-to hold was something I really wanted. After contemplating the purchase for a few days I finally took the plunge. So happy I did! My understanding of this hold has increased dramatically. I can't wait to start applying it. I had never heard of Henry Akins before, but I love his teaching style. This video is well worth the price.
I have all Henry’s courses and every one of them is pure magic. His attention to details makes his Jiu Jitsu effortless. I’ve done several private lessons with Henry, I have felt his pressure with the scarf hold, and it’s on another level. I highly highly recommend the scarf hold/soul stealer course. Carl
Excellent info on an often underutilized position. Unfortunately I am not able to live drill due to COVID restrictions but the concepts and Henry’s teaching methods make this easy to understand and easy to remember so I will not have any issues applying these techniques once my gym opens back up. I found the “outtakes” just as insightful. If you find yourself lost in scarf hold or mistrust it, get this series and fix the problem.
Great video - Henry is an excellent teacher. Very easy to watch, really clear explanation of how to get into the position, how it works and how to maintain it.
I’ve taken privates from Pr. Akins. His top pressure is unsustainable. It’s really the hidden things he teaches which you can’t see that amplifies his control and pressure by a hundred.
"Everything" Henry teaches works! It's like you got into the secret meeting. And if you expect gaudy flash, you won't see it. It's the little things and they just plain work! Bottomline: Henry learned from Rickson. Henry credits every single thing to Rickson. Henry has integrity. Want flash, go somewhere else. Wanna get better today? and tomorrow? and the next day? Buy this series and everything Henry teaches. Oh, and he is a tremendous human being! ...long time grappler, not ranked in Gracie or Akins system.
