Put some effective old school sweeps and submissions into your closed guard game ***(Long review)***
The Most Deadly Closed Guard by Marcio Stambowsky
This instructional teaches a series of old school Gi sweeps and submissions. This is a techniques focused instructional. It does not attempt to be a comprehensive closed guard instructional, but rather provides a series of interesting and effective sweeps and submissions that are generally not taught in other closed guard instructionals. Marcio Stambowsky effectively explains and demonstrates the techniques contained in this instructional. As expected, techniques are repeated from multiple angles. In my opinion these techniques are effective and not complicated. There is a good flow from technique to technique (e.g., Volume 2 teaches the combo grip and then a series of submissions based on what opportunities are provided by the opponent). A person of average fitness and flexibility should have no difficulty learning and using the techniques taught in this instructional. There is minimal banter, which I think is a good thing. The instructional has been filmed with a fixed camera. The quality of the video is good as is the range and there are no issues with the microphone. If you are wanting to surprise your training partners and competitors with closed guard techniques that they are unlikely to be familiar with, then this instructional should interest you. This instructional has a total runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. The next section of the review gives an overview of the content of this instructional by volume, if this information interests you. Volume 1 (30 minutes long) covers sweep techniques all using a cross grip. The volume also includes variations for some of these techniques. The big brother sweep is where the opponent is pulled forward using both your arms on the same side (i.e., cross grip to the sleeve and the other hand holding either the top of their shoulder or the GI under the triceps) in unison with your legs so that the opponent is pulled onto your chest, held down and swept over primarily with the use of your legs in a movement like a pendulum sweep. After the opponent is swept you should end in mount top with your chest pinning their elbow onto their own chest and they are submitted with a wrist lock from the application of pressure to their elbow with their hand held flat to the mat. The second sweep taught is the hip bump with an emphasis on teaching the action reaction entry, lifting your hips and finishing with an S mount armbar. The final technique is the alpha position and multiple finishes are taught. The alpha position is entered using the same hand position (i.e., cross grip to sleeve and other hand connected at the top of their shoulder) and using the legs the opponent’s arm is pulled across their chest. Once their arm comes across their body you reach over their back and grasp under their armpit and with your free arm raise yourself to attach your body across their lower shoulder. This blocks their ability to pull their arm back that you have pulled across their body. From the alpha position you can drive forward using your back leg to take the mount; attack a simple and cool submission, if the opponent attempts to pull out your posting arm; depending on the response from the opponent there are options to take their back or sweep them backwards to the mount and again finish with a simple and clever armlock submission. Volume 2 (25minutes long) covers primarily submissions from closed guard using the combo grip. A series of techniques are taught that are based on the combo grip, which is achieved in situations where you are in closed guard and your opponent steps up with one leg. The grip is initiated where your cross grip already controls the opponent’s arm and you pass your other arm under and through the opponent’s raised leg. Then sleeve control of their arm is passed to your arm that is under and through their leg. Your same side arm will now control their arm via their sleeve. Once this initial control is gained then with your other arm you initially pass it under the opponent’s arm, which will be supporting some of their weight and then dropping your arm close to their hand to pull their arm back towards your chest and finally gripping their sleeve for control. The combo grip is now complete and the opponent can be swept firstly by pulling them forward using your legs and then using your legs in a movement similar to a pendulum sweep so that you finish in the mount top. The second technique taught from the combo grip is an armbar when the opponent postures up to avoid the risk of the sweep. Again, from the combo grip Marcio Stambowsky teaches an omaplata sweep and the triangle choke, if the opponent pulls their arm out when you are attempting the armbar. If the opponent cannot be swept because they bring their weight low, then a backwards rolling sweep to either a wrist lock or alternatively moving to mount top and then applying either a triangle choke or an armbar is taught. The armbar leg placement is interesting. The final technique of this volume is a sweep

New Wave Jiu Jitsu: Open Guard vol 2: Sweeps and Reversals by John Danaher
As always Mr.Danaher never disappoints with these instructional’s. Information you can apply instantly to your next class is just amazing. Would recommend to anyone in the community.

Train Safe: Reducing The Risk of Injury Accidents In The Jiu Jitsu Training Room by John Danaher
It is really really cool that they were giving this out on a promotional basis. While in other videos John can get kind of dense, this series is concise and gets to the point of giving very good information that is valuable in any gym setting. Something like this should be required viewing before you even step on the mat, really.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Split Guard
The Split Guard System by Karel "Silver Fox" Pravec
I got everything I wanted out of this instructional. The split guard can work in gi, no-gi, and self defense/MMA. It is also conveniently accessible from some side control escapes and turtle escapes. Karel does a great job organizing this instructional to provide you with his system thus saving you years of thought and experimentation to figure it out on your own. He teaches is you several submissions from the split guard and several entries as well. The ude gatame section was kind of a bonus section for me that I was not expecting. He teaches it because it is somewhat related to the split guard. In addition to this instructional, Karel will answer questions on it during his live streams. He currently streams on Fridays in the earlier half of the day, and he is happy to answer questions especially if you purchased the split guard and still need some answers.

Systematically Attacking From Top Pins: Mount by Gordon Ryan
Training under John Danaher, teamed with the DDS instructionals has helped me understand, that 11.5 years of training Jiu jitsu and I still don’t know anything.

Jiu Jitsu for Old Guys: Over / Under Pressure Passing System by Bernardo Faria
This is a great technique, and a great way to "cook" your opponent while you set up a guard pass. I haven't found many people who can defend the shot . I do have a lot of trouble getting elevated by stronger opponents though. Fortunately, that puts me right in deep half-guard (when I get sumi gaeshi'd towards my head).

Finish on the Back by Ethan Crelinsten
Ethan is an amazing teacher. What I loved most about this instructional was that each technique would be followed by the reason why he was doing what he was doing. I now have a full understanding of retaining the back, escaping the back, and ensuring a finish. As the review below said, the hand fighting lessons alone are worth the price, yet you get so much more. So happy to finally understand Ethan's thought process after watching him **** it in competition. Definitely my favorite back instructional that I own. Looking forward to a passing instructional from him next!

No Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Escaping System by Troy Manning
Absolutely awesome. No bs with coach Troy. He gets right to work and shows high percentage escapes from the most common submissions and from others as well. When was the last time he got tapped out…1975?! Lol. Uke is one tough girl as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Finishing Leg Locks Daisy Fresh Style by Jacob Couch
Why waste time with other dvds. This one dives deep into the system with "hillbilly Hammer" jokes, insights and levels that would take years to learn. I've used Ryan's Craig's, and a few others by far the best I've used.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Best leg lock instructional period
All of the Danaher goodness with none of the pedantry. Advanced, winning techniques taught in a foolproof way.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Must Have for 50/50 Firepower
Dynamic No Gi 50/50 by Jason Rau
I love Jason's technique and style of teaching. It's high level and no added fluff. He gives you what works on black belt level reactions and finishing mechanics that are extremely powerful. Learning how to he breaks the legs apart and finish the 50/50 heel hook are worth the $77. Not to mention all the different transitions etc. If you're looking to learn 50/50 leg locks then this DVD is a MUST HAVE in your collection.

The Buchecha Takedown System In The Gi by Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida
So many valuable tips in this instructional. Even down to little things (or not so little things) as grips and stand. I would definitely recommend this. Its Buchecha so it's obviously going to be great
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Fantastic Instructional
Five + hours of techniques that don't stop coming. As a blue belt I knew how to defend some submissions but Ryan gives you even more (and sometimes even easier) options. He doesn't only go over on how to escape but very often teaches you what to follow up with. Doesn't only teach you how to escape but tells you how to prevent someone to do it to you. I have learned techniques that I didn't know I needed. I applied his "Rodrigo sit up" escape right away at my next open mats and reversed 4 different people that day, one of them even thought that I "caught him off balance" because it was effortlessly. This instructional was definitely worth the investment.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::call_me_hand::skin-tone-2:Very helpful
This has been a great instructional, ever since I watched Andrews Daisy fresh knee slice I've been tempted with more of his videos because I like the way he teaches. This didn't disappoint! He even covers quite a bit of open guard too which I found extremely helpful!

At Home Drills - NO GI by Helena Crevar
I spend half of my time out at work on a boat for weeks at a time, and my only jiu jitsu outlet is a grappling *****. There are very few instructionals around specifically showing how to get the most out of ***** drills. This series has a ***** featured in about half of the techniques at least, so that is very useful to me.
