I purchased the original Octopus guard dvd back in 2023 and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I bought this one to compare what updated technology had been developed. I liked this DVD but noticed that the approach on this one was more of a counter guard when trapped in bottom side control / turtle. I like the chaos it can bring in a scramble.

New Wave Foot Sweeps For Lazy People by Satoshi Ishii
Ah foot sweeps the aged practitioners best friend. As an older jiujiteiro, my knees ain't what they once were. So the old blast double leg takedown or even the entry to a single leg are the last thing on my mind if I want to be ambulatory after my lesson or open mat. The solution? Foot sweeps. This instructional covers a broad spectrum of foot sweeps all of which can be highly effective if hit correctly. Despite English being a second (or even third) language for Satoshi Ishii he is still able to clearly articulate his instructions in a way that even a knucklehead like me can understand. The last chapter is self drilling which is a nice touch to help develop your ability to execute the move. Highly recommended for practitioners of all ages.

The Building Blocks of Bottom Half Guard by James Finizio
This is a wonderfully planned and detail-oriented instructional. I know and have rolled with James personally and he is truly worthy of the title professor. He is strong but doesn't utilize it, instead purely relying only on technique, smooth transitions and trapping/baiting. He doesn't hunt, he just moves you into detrimental positions and waits for you to make mistake and then it is over. This video incorporates some of his best techniques and what is great about the content is how each move chains to the other leading to chain sweeps, chain submissions or both which helps enhance learning for beginners and intermediates to recognize and learn BJJ as a whole. This helps eliminate fragmented learning and allows one to see the whole picture, the forest that is BJJ for the trees that is learning one technique at a time. I was honestly hoping he would have released another instructional by now because when he does I will buy that one in a second. Guys if you like to play half guard and want to become dangerous from it or if you get stuck in half guard a lot and need a way out to better positions, then this is the instructional for you. James Finizio is a top level black belt under the great Pedro Sauer. That should say it all right there.
