The Mirroring Principle: The Hidden & Essential Mechanics of Pressure Passing by Wim Deputter
I'm extremely picky when it comes to committing to understanding and sistematically practicing what a coach has to offer but since I met Wim, I don't miss anything of what he puts online. This dvd in particular made a lot of concepts and situations "click" in our training. Can't recommend it enough.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:Kimura techniques - Straight to the point
No Gi BJJ Kimura System by Troy Manning
Volume 1 (14 minutes long) has 14 chapters and covers kimura techniques with some variants and includes the kimura sweep and a counter to the kimura sweep. The positions covered include closed guard bottom, half guard bottom, side control bottom, side control top and north-south top. Volume 2 (25 minutes long) covers a total of 24 chapters and covers material including techniques to counter the opponent when they attempt to defend the kimura; defending the standing back control using the kimura; countering the single leg and the double leg takedowns using the kimura; submissions from the kimura lockdown position; and escaping the kimura and countering with your own submissions. The positions covered include north-south top, from standing, turtle top, half guard bottom, side control bottom, north-south bottom and closed guard top. Sound and picture quality are reasonable (see the previews to form your own opinion) . For some unknown reason the instructional is filmed in monochrome. It doesn’t significantly detract from the presentation, but colour is always welcome. There is some background noise from the gym and the street, but it is never intrusive. The camera work is stable, but basic. In volume one techniques are filmed predominately from one angle. The instructions provided for each technique are clear and direct. Mostly the techniques are repeated several times. Troy generally shows options / variations for techniques. The total time of the instructional is 39 minutes, but there is so much information and techniques included, so don’t be put off, if you think the instructional is too short. In my opinion the price is keen and this instructional is a worthwhile addition to your library, if you wish to improve your knowledge of the kimura and its use (i.e. both the opportunities and the threats). This recommendation applies to both Gi and No-Gi players.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:A detailed course on control and submission from the mount top
Winning From Full Mount by Andre Galvao
Objective of the instructional Andre states that this instructional has been developed to teach “offensive strategies from the mount position, so that you can develop a better understanding of fundamental Jiu Jitsu”. Content Volume 1 (1 hour 8 minutes) covers controlling and maintaining the mount and commences teaching simple submissions from the mount top including Americana lock, basic armbar, and introduces chaining submissions - Americana lock to armbar and armbar to triangle choke. The coverage on controlling and maintaining the mount (a 26 minute chapter) is excellent and achievable for the ordinary mortal. From what I have learnt from this instructional has really helped me control opponents and to be more confident in the mount top position. Teaching this approach to control to my friends has also assisted them to significantly improve their ability to control their opponent when they are in the mount top position as well. Volume 2 (1 hour 18 minutes) covers submissions from the S mount (armbars and triangle traps), kata gatame strangle, several chained attacks (kata gatame to triangle, Americana to straight armlock and Americana to S mount armbar) and detailed coverage of the guillotine choke. Volume 3 (1 hour 13 minutes) covers further submissions including kimura, squat armbar, omaplata, rollanplata (i.e. a submission if the opponent tries to roll out of an omaplata) and several back takes including submissions. Volume 4 (1 hour 3 minutes) covers more submissions including a wristlock, the tornado armbar and understanding chaining submission attacks including concepts, variations and tips for training. Andre is an excellent and confident instructor. He speaks clearly, is engaging and knowledgeable. This instructional is so much more than just teaching the mechanics of the techniques. He teaches all the details, the why, the consequences, the likely responses from the opponent and insights into his thinking with the goal to get a “nice” submission. As you would expect Andre demonstrates the technique at a slow pace, repeats at different angles and then performs the technique at speed. Importantly when discussing the submissions, he shows the various options and variations that can be used with the submission. Clearly doing this takes more time, but in my opinion, it is a good use of time. Sound and picture quality are good. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. The total length of the instructional is 4 hours and 42 minutes long. I strongly recommend this instructional for people that wish to improve their ability to control and maintain mount top; learn a range of practical and effective submissions; and then learn how to chain them together to ensure that they can submit their opponent from mount top. This recommendation applies to both Gi and No-Gi players.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:A positional escape instructional focused on the techniques
No Gi BJJ Position Escaping System by Troy Manning
Troy teaches No-Gi positional escape techniques at a brisk pace with all the required details, but without the associated theory to each escape. This is not a bad approach, particularly if you wish to focus on the technique without all the theory and background that can a make an instructional long and at times a bit tedious and difficult to watch. Obviously, there are benefits from understanding the theory, however that is not what this instructional is all about. I note that the description of this product is consistent with this approach – “Manning’s straight forward, clear, and concise instruction.” In summary, Volume 1 (38 minutes long) covers mount and side control escapes. Volume 2 (19 minutes long) covers scarf hold, north-south and knee on belly escapes. Volume 3 (20 minutes long) covers seated back and turtle escapes. The instructions provided for each technique are clear, including where to position yourself when you have finished, easily understood and where relevant, Troy teaches options or variations to the escape. The techniques are repeated from different angles and again with narration. From my perspective Troy’s instructions have sufficient detail and I think would lend themselves to being memorised as part of the learning process (i.e. key dot points). I like that some escapes are taught so that you move directly into an offensive position or a sweep and also interestingly he teaches how to counter some of the escapes. Sound and picture quality are good. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. The total length of the instructional is 1 hour and 17 minutes long. I would recommend this instructional for people that wish to improve their positional escapes and/or their counters to positional escapes. This recommendation applies to both Gi and No-Gi players. For me this is the third Troy Manning instructional that I have bought.

The Imanari Roll And Modern Leg Attacks From Japan by Masakazu Imanari
My bjj game is focused on leg locks in my game, and I enjoyed this instructional a lot. It is not very systematical instructional (save for the Imanari roll), but Masakazu explains with a lot of details each technique and includes all type of leg locks (heel hook, calf slicer, ankle lock, knee bars, etc.). When you have a basic leg lock game, this instructional will help you to include a lot of new effective variations and techniques that will improeve your game, I love it!

The Shoulder Pin Guard System by Neil Melanson
great tutorial of shoulder/arm locks and chokes that basically start when you over hook your opponent in your guard. the advertising is correct, you don't need flexibility to practice these holds. a lot of information here, some i can use now and some i will grow into. P.S. Neil, i have seen an old dvd where mark hatmaker taught the "kingpin".

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:Side Control Seminar on DVD
The Roger Gracie Side Control System by Roger Gracie
I visited a seminar of Roger last year in Zuerich(Switzerland) where he showed us his side control system. Since then I only use the technics he showed us in the seminar with resounding success. His system is simple but super effective: get perpendicular while lying on the opponents head, control the belt. Then fish for an underhook and do papercutter choke or get kimura and attack the back. Optionally go to mount from SC or get Kimura and attack the back. In this DVD he shows the seminar content plus some more moves and variations. Roger is a super nice guy and a great teacher, hope he visits Switzerland soon again, excellent DVD.
Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:Excellent Map to Side Control
The Roger Gracie Side Control System by Roger Gracie
Roger’s system for addressing side control is surprisingly short. There aren’t a whole lot of moves that he shows. But surprisingly that ends up being a good thing. He focuses on showing a small number of highly detailed moves and explains how to create dilemmas for your opponent that force them to give up position. A lot of side control instructional are hard to follow because they show too many options. Roger’s system is well reasoned and focused. He shows how his system doesn’t rely on athleticism but rather forcing his opponents to try and address multiple threats which leads to progressively advancing position. This is a great supplement to the traditional approaches to side control that are taught in every school. Roger is known for his basics but I wouldn’t call this basic at all. Check out the preview on his technical mount. That is basically the level of detail he shows in every discussion. I’d never seen that version of the technical mount before. Highly recommended.

Response from BJJ FanaticsNice! :hugging:A closed guard instructional with a focus on taking the opponent’s back
Connected Reaction: Clinch Closed Guard by Paul Schreiner
Objective of the instructional During the introduction (Volume 1) Paul states that he will teach how to control the opponent’s posture and seamlessly transition to sweeps and back takes, while the opponent struggles to escape his partner’s control. Content Volume 1 (total 26 minutes) provides an overview of closed guard and identifies the objectives of closed guard; there is a discussion on the safety benefits of using the pistol grip compared to the spider guard grip, how to break grips and the use of the two on one grip to move the opponent’s arm across their body; and Volume 1 finishes with how to access the opponents back using the tilt method (i.e. commencing with passing their arm across their body to open access to their back, controlling their upper body while hip escaping until they tip over into your back control). Volume 2 (total 24 minutes) covers two other additional back take methods: climbing onto the back through an initial grip break and extension of the opponent; and accessing the back by using an initial underhook clinch and then climbing onto their back. Excellent coverage is provided on entering the clinch. Importantly Volume 2 includes guidance on how to deal with problems that may be encountered when using either of these two back taking methods. Volume 3 (total 34 minutes) covers the butterfly sweep with a clinch control when the opponent either steps up onto one leg or remains on their knees; taking the back when the opponent defends the butterfly sweep with a clinch control; using an underhook in combination with a John Wayne sweep; and a reversal from side control using the underhook clinch including the option to take their back. Volume 4 (total 26 minutes) covers some armlocks from closed guard, specifically the interaction between the tilt back take and the armlock. Paul demonstrates that with the opponent defending the tilt back take this will provide the opportunity for your legs to climb the opponent’s back to gain a top lock and from this position there are opportunities for a twisting armlock, wristlock, armbar and potentially a triangle or an omaplata. This volume also includes: an arm-drag armlock taken after a failed tilt back take; an armlock taken after a failed back climb; and using the John Wayne sweep after a failed back climb. Sound and picture quality are good. The angles of the technique displayed are appropriate. Paul is an engaging and knowledgeable instructor. His instructions and the demonstrations of the techniques are clear. The instructional is 1 hour and 50 minutes long. What attracted me to this instructional was the use of the clinch in the closed guard and the instructor. Paul has produced a number of instructionals over the years and those instructionals that I have acquired, I have been pleased with my purchases. I think that this instructional is not focused on the use of the clinch, but rather taking the back and appropriately dealing with situations where attempts to take the back fail. I think one of the strengths of this instructional is teaching the student what to do when the technique fails. I recommend this instructional for improving your knowledge and ability to effectively take the back from closed guard bottom. In my opinion this material is taught well, however the title of this instructional should more accurately reflect the content.

Response from BJJ Fanatics:hugging::+1::skin-tone-2:Bareknuckle Fighting
Foundation of Lethwei by Dave Leduc
Let me give you the short verdict first: If you're potentially interested in bareknuckle fighting, buy this! Now let's go back to the "why" part. So, this is a video about bare-knuckle fighting *by a legitimate champion in a bareknuckle martial art which incorporates elbows, headbutts, knees, kicks and takedowns*. Why is that significant? First, not everyting that works with gloves works without, or at least not as well as you might be used to. (Cue all the discussions about the impact of smaller MMA gloves...though, on second thought, let's stop here!) Second, there's actually no dearth of videos that deal with bareknuckle fighting. The problem is with establishing the credentials of the people teaching the material. Street fights are notoriously difficult to confirm (ask any prosecutor) and those include the use of weapons more often than not. Champions in arts that allow bare-knuckle fighting often have a more limited skillset (Kyokushinkai is bare-knuckle fighting, but I suspect almost everyone agrees that the lack of punches to the face and no danger of being tackled...well, different conditions change things - in fact Le Duc himself mentions it while explaining one of the key differences between his art and Muay Thai). Not so in this case. Mr. Le Duc is, again, a legitimate champion in an art that allows...well, all of the above! So, that's why I recommend that you get that video. The fact that Dave Le Duc has a very nice style of explaining the material (the man managed to make the historical info interesting - many people would wish their history teacher was like that...) is a bonus!

Combatives & Street Jiu Jitsu by Dan "The Wolf Man" Theodore
Ok I am 3 hours into Dan Theodore's work and I felt the need to take the time to encourage others to buy this incredible gem from Bjjfanatics. There is so much here its and undeniable value ! Dan covers everything you need to stay safe . How do I know? Well he just casually shared 1 technique that would have helped me in a situation I went through years ago. Dan blends EVERYTHING he knows and shows you how MMA skills transition to the street as well. It's like watching rare footage of whatever master in whatever are you respect. Lucas is the #1 i his weight class for a reason. This DVD details Lucas deep insight into passing any type of guard. His understanding of pressure and body mechanics cant be matched anywhere else, that is why he has been able to pass the guards of the best bottom players in the world. It is truly remarkable how much pressure he can exert when passing guard, if you[ve ever rolled with Lucas you can understand.
