The Guard Retention Anthology: Through The Legs and Close Range by Lachlan Giles & Ariel Tabak
awesome early and late recovery options from everywhere!
When I found myself stationed out here in South Dakota, stuck in the dorms and completely isolated from my usual Gracie Barra training partners back home, I was honestly losing my mind trying to figure out how to keep my skills sharp. When you’ve put in the years to get to brown belt, the last thing you want is for your movement to get rusty just because you don't have bodies to roll with every day. I picked up this instructional hoping for a temporary fix to my isolation, but it completely changed how I look at solo training. Let's be real—a lot of those traditional Brazilian warmups we've all been doing for years are honestly kind of ******. We just go through the motions because that's how class has always started. Danaher strips all that nonsense away. Instead of just giving you a random calisthenics routine, he actually breaks down the reasons why these specific movements are important. He connects every single solo drill directly to the mechanics of actual grappling, so you understand exactly what you are trying to accomplish with your body. This series is incredibly useful, not just for surviving a lack of training partners, but for actually making your body mechanics more efficient. Highly recommend it to anyone stuck training alone or who just wants to stop wasting time on pointless warmups.
The Complete North South Choke by Marcelo Garcia
I’ve been obsessed with refining my North South choke for a long time now. It’s one of those moves that seems straightforward, but I’ve always felt like I was missing that extra little detail to consistently get the finish against tougher training partners. I finally pulled the trigger on this Marcelo Garcia series, and honestly, it was worth it just for one specific section of the instructional. The way he breaks down the finishing mechanics completely cleared up what I was doing wrong. It wasn't just helpful; it was the "aha" moment I needed to actually start landing the submission. If you aren't familiar with this choke yet, it is definitely a technique worth learning, and this is the perfect way to get started. I highly recommend grabbing this video if you want to tighten up your top game.
A Lifesaver When You're Cut Off From the Mats (And Why Most Warmups Are Pointless)
Self Mastery: Solo BJJ Training Drills by John Danaher
When I found myself stationed out here in South Dakota, stuck in the dorms and completely isolated from my usual training partners back home, I was honestly losing my mind trying to figure out how to keep my skills the last thing you want is for your movement to get rusty just because you don't have bodies to roll with every day. I picked up this instructional hoping for a temporary fix to my isolation, but it completely changed how I look at solo training. Let's be real—a lot of those traditional Brazilian warmups we've all been doing for years are honestly kind of ******. We just go through the motions because that's how class has always started. Game-Changing Concepts – Way Beyond Just Moves
The Sport of Kings: High Performance Mindset For Grappling by Gordon Ryan
The insight Gordon provides in this one is incredibly valuable. It’s one thing to memorize a bunch of isolated techniques, but this instructional actually breaks down the bigger macro outlook of the sport. Understanding the overarching strategy and why you should be doing things proved to be way more valuable to my game than just drilling another random submission or sweep. If you're trying to tie everything together and see the whole board instead of just the individual pieces, this is exactly what you need. Highly recommend.
