Brilliant details
The Evolved Ezekiel by Kennet Ekelund Waale
I knew I like the Ezekiel before getting this instructional, but this helped come up with game plan around it, and start tapping people from mount when I was a white belt. This has been essential to my Jiu Jitsu journey so far.
Helpful details still used 3 years later
No Gi Fundamentals Bottom Game by JT Torres
I bought this 3 years ago and I still use some of the specific details today. As well as a general game plan JT gives some more helpful and precise details which help make the techniques easier to put into practice in both gi and nogi.
Essential part of my game
Escapes Engineered For Guys Over 40 by Thomas Rozdzynski
Before the endless instructionals now on BJJ fanatics about rolling older there was this series, and as a mobility compromised practitioner, this has been essential in helping me develop a love for Jiu Jitsu mechanics as a whole and along with that developing a game based entirely on this approach. Although this is on escapes predominantly this openend my eyes to how to use Jiu Jitsu and develop a game that worked for me, and proved BJJ can be for anyone. Plus I still use these effective escapes all the time, which is certainly a good sign!
Great for enhancement of existing fundamental knowledge
Scientific Gripping Systems For Jiu Jitsu by Travis Stevens
I remember this was one of the first instructionals I bought, but I didn't get the full benefit of it then. It was helpful in learning the purposes of grips, but I didn't have a good enough fundamental knowledge for applying them effectively. Thankfully upon returning I can see this as a useful reference for how I can better use grips to achieve my aims more effectively. I'd recommend this one as a great addition to your enhancing your game, but probably not for brand newbies.
great
Fundamentals of a Jiu Jitsu Renegade by Kurt Osiander
very solid and understandable instruction
Classic and helpful Danaher
New Wave Jiu Jitsu: Side Attacks - Building a Devastating Side Control System by John Danaher
As you'd expect from John, you're getting a high level of detail not only in pins and submissions but the transitions to mount, pressure and responses to your opponents escapes. It's a preference I think but I always appreciate the amount of detail John adds to his instructionals to give you a good understanding of the position so you can make good choices and also troubleshoot the position if you are not managing something in your game. I'd recommend this one for definite.

Passing the Guard: BJJ Fundamentals - Go Further Faster by John Danaher
I haven’t finished the instructional. I’m a 47 yo grappler, so I don’t have the mental capacity to process the whole instructional but I have always found that the materials is game changing. It’s like relearning fundamentals but properly. I really wished I would have trained with Danaher when I was living in NYC. Amazing professor.
